Hey all I'm looking to upgrade my FJ62 to an FZJ80 as I need more space and (hopefully) an easier solution to securing my kids carseats. Since my oldest is going to have his seat switched to forward facing, I need to know if there is any way I can secure the top tether - basically it prevents the top part of the carseat from rocking forward in an accident. I currently have it attached to a hook in the back of my 62. My thought was that I could hook it to the third row attachment points and just forgo using the third row. Has anyone used a top tether in their 80 Series? Any ideas? Thanks!

I use the 3rd row points for when I latch mine. Its pretty solid...a lot more solid that the seats will be.

I think there are some d-rings under the carped that are pretty solid as well that are closer to the 2nd row seats that I used. Didn't do any research about it but it seems solid enough.

I use the floor tether point right behind the 2nd row seat (under the carpet, I had to go digging for it) for the upper anchor point in the LC.

Same here....there is one behind both passenger and driver side 2nd row seats....so 2 total. Works well and doesn't mess with the minimal leg room for the 3rd row....which adults can't really comfortably sit in anyway.

ditto. the cargo tiedown hooks under the carpet work great. More specifically, I bought britax car seats that don't require "latch" points to work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OLRKH9C?tag=ihco-20 If your kids fit in these, it is a great solution. They trap the main shoulder seatbelt internally in the car seat. My '97 has seat belts that are compatible with the "click tight" system...which you can test easily. Pull the shoulder belt all the way out to the stop. The right type of seatbelt will engage ratchet that will not let the seatbelt go back out again while the belt is under any tension. Pull it all the way to the end, then ;et it retract slowly. if you hear the ratchet clicking, as it retracts, you're golden.

footnote: before I discovered the cargo hooks under the carpet (which was like finding a golden nugget), I had relocated one of the third row grab handles to the drivers side above door. this left a threaded stud which I promptly bolted a D-ring onto for the purpose of back-tethering the car seat too....now with the discovery of the cargo hooks, I don't use that anymore, but I suppose that is an option too.
