Won't happen. Having same issue with my 85. 99% of parts are available minus 2 hoses. Dealers will all tell you something different but corporate makes the call. Since those 2 hoses are nla, no recall can be performed. I would maybe sell my cruiser for $7500 but knowing it would go to the crusher. I will keep it. My 85 has been amazing and has never let me down. A proper restoration is in order.

My FJ60 must have been one of the last to have had the tank replaced with the replacement being done this past October. The list of parts is long because they do go in and replace all the tank, hoses, clamps.

Toyota Corporate said they are no longer performing the tank replacement because the recall is too old.
She gave me a number to Toyota Corporate to call if I had any questions.

My question is since Toyota will no longer do the recall on a safety issue was Toyota saying tough or were they going to offer to buy your Cruiser? Either way I would call Toyota Corporate and have them put that in writing in a letter with their letter head. If their official stand the recall is over Toyota should have no problem putting it in writing rather then someone on the phone telling the dealer it's over with no record.

Can they legally just say the recall is over? I would think the buy back should go into effect immediately.
I wonder if anyone refused to sell their Tacoma back to Toyota based upon the rotted frame issue.

Send them a "bill" for a comparable (long range?) Replacement tank plus labor.

Good luck with that one. I think Toyota may have a few lawyers who could defend them if you try and sue them. Only way I would do it is if it was in writing ahead of time that they agreed to pay.

I'm just curious on Toyota's stance on this. Are they going to just say it's over, tough or start a buy by program like on the frame rotted Tacomas? Maybe they can convince the government to do another "Cash for Clunkers" program that targets the 60 series.

I called Toyota Corporate and they said the recall will still be covered and said the best action for me would be to call another dealer.

I called Camelback Toyota and they confirmed there are a few parts unavailable but said they would be willing to perform the work and work with me if I purchase the missing parts through aftermarket sources. They are going to to order the part individually and get me a list of the remaining parts that are NLA. It sounds like it's hoses and gaskets that are NLA so the cost through aftermarket should be reasonable.

Good progress. Your persistence paid off. Cheers.

Wow it would seem the dealer network needs some help.....or at least some corporate oversight.
I am glad you are getting the job done!

Bamn yo! l love camelback they defy everything I have ever known about dealers... truly a gem. Bought my wife's corolla there... will go back!!

They definitely were friendly and easy to work with so far. The service rep claimed that none of the mech's had ever heard of this recall. I've heard they're a cruiser friendly dealership, they're just 30 miles away from where I live so I've never stopped by.
Does anyone have a picture of the connection between the hard fuel lines and the fuel hoses by the tank?
The best I've come up with so far is from this thread.

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Old thread, old problem. Unfortunately no new solutions. I just bought a FJ62 that does not have the tank replaced and it smells of gas. Trying to figure out how to get it fixed and the dealerships I talked with have said there is no fix, they will buy the truck from me and bring it in so they can look at it. I don't want to get rid of it but want a stock tank. Any leads on tanks out there? I've also been cautioned not to take it in because the dealer won't let me leave with my truck once they have possession of it. ANy experience with that situation out there?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, you are stuck with aftermarket or buying a used one. Could be simple gasket or hose issue.

What area are you in?

^What he said. Must obtain a diagnosis. Not necessarily a tank problem.

At this point, if the recall has not been performed, it's a buy-back. Toyota's only obligation is fix it or buy it back since the vehicle is so old and parts are no longer available. They only have to give you what they think it's worth, not what you think it's worth.

If it's an otherwise nice truck, buy an aftermarket long-range tank and move on.
