Bumps on my 78’s rear tub/fenders?

Went to reassemble the spare carrier and realized Toyota had delivered 2 nylon bushings that fit and 2 that were a completely different size. Ordered 2 more but looking at the fit with the stock nylon the bottom mount still seemed sloppy,

I was sure I typed this in before. :hhmm: The bushing packs from Toyota contain two tire carrier bushings and two for the hard top post. It's weird that you need two packs to do the tire carrier, but then you end up with an extra pair for the hard top posts.

There are bushings that go on the HT post into the B-pillar? Or do you mean for a HT door hinge?

I ordered 2 ea 90386-20002 (image #2) and 2 ea 90386-16004 (image #1). The -20002 had larger diameters that didn't work - the upper/lower shafts are the same diameter on my tire carrier.
Is there a bushing that goes on the hard-top post area? I see a spacer (image #3 - 6583...) on my diagram but it doesn't look like a bushing?

I'm not sure either. The spacer is a felt gizmo that fills up the gap. I just know the 2nd bushings that came in the packs with the carrier bushings fit in that location perfectly. I've got them around somewhere.

On mine it is foam. About 1/8" thick. Somewhere I have the bag with the part number. If we can get Tom's attention (lostmarbles) he'll have the part number.

Small update on the ambulance doors. Making a few custom :D picks to reach some small dings. Grinding to finish up and I should be ready for some filler.

Gusb, have you detailed your body tools in this thread? I've never seen some of them and would love to know what they are called and proper techniques.

Picked up a jack mounting bracket on eBay from a 77 FJ40. Got to be the same part for my 78, right? The list of missing stock parts gets a little shorter . I like parts like this that look like they've just been taken off and still have their original patina. This one even still has some black paint.

Building my own Erector Set of attachments for my work table. Yeah, maybe I'm losing it... ;p

If you get the chance at some point Ed - Thanks :)

Being the good samaritan was a mixed bag. For you, the two brackets on the '76 and '78 are the same. Both of the rigs are very original, so the brackets probably are too.

For me, I got to enjoy memories of wheeling trips by seeing the leaves, pine needles and sand under the seat of my '78. Unfortuntately I also noticed that I don't have the rubber puck on this bracket on my '78. :( Now I've got something to search for at the swap meet tomorrow.

Thanks.

Are you referring to the Petaluma thing tomorrow? Have you been in years past and is it a good source for LC parts?

Yes, PMC. There's a listing in the trails and events forums. It was the biggest until Stockton got really big. There will be lots of parts, for sure.

Putting some Omni MTX (PPG) single-stage on the ambulance doors. One shot of DP50LV Epoxy Primer under one shot of color at this point. May need another coat of color, this stuff still does not seem to cover that well (limited experience opinion :D) but it does lay flat without a lot of runs. Already knocked 1 part reducer off the spec sheet.
