Still using that Dewalt compressor? Looks FANTASTIC! Very nice work.

Thanks, yeah - the same little Dewalt. Seems to work well with the little spot gun - it even stops running once in a while :D. Never changed the filter yet, Ive got a little SATA in-line moisture trap close to the gun.

I learn a little more as I go along. The lighting was bad this time around, seems like good lighting is always important with everything so I'm trying to rig up something better for the next go round. Hitting the doors with a gentle 320 dry grit (after 24 hrs.) and will go back over again.

What kind of idiot puts hours of body work into a couple of doors and then after paint notices that the lower mounting holes on one door have disappeared? :grinpimp: Just a skim coat of filler (I swear) but somehow I managed to cover them up and didn't even notice until today. At least I didn't weld them! :D

:doh:

OEM jack mount is lookin' good!

A little tech support feedback on my OME suspension I thought was interesting.

==============================================================================
The only issue is the truck feels a little squirrelly on uneven pavement at speed and the steering will not self correct (return to center) that well when coming out of a turn.
Could the caster have been affected by the new lift and if so, as the springs break in and I add weight to the truck (hardtop is off, etc.) should it improve over time?

==============================================================================
The lift has reduced caster on the front axle which will cause the steering
issues you've described. As you have correctly suspected caster will
increase as the springs break in and the truck drops a bit from the current
height. Caster wedges are available to add a couple degrees if needed, but I
would wait until you have the top on and the springs broken in to see if
they are still needed.

Gus, my experience with my 2.5" OME heavies was a very stiff ride at first. Juuuust a tad darty the first couple of days until I mounted the winch and non-stock bumper. After one day trip off road with some articulation it was much softer. Now after 8000km mostly on road it is down-right plush. Didn't sink a hell of a lot that I have noticed. I weighed in at 5600# loaded for bear on the way out to the whipsaw trail, a 950km trip one way. So I have most definitely loaded her up.

Thanks Kevin, good to hear from you. Maybe it's time for me to try to fit a winch into the budget for a quick caster adjustment - I'd prefer that to wedges. :D

Hope you post up pictures of your trip at some point.

I'll send you a link to some private shots of an earlier outing

My experience is similar to Kevin's. I've had three OME spring sets now: two 40 series and one 47. Personally I like the shims when they are new but as they age they don't need it. Mine on my LX are over seven years old now and have done numerous trips into the middle of Australia, moab, New Mexico and Colorado and I no longer have caster shims (or need them). They ride wonderfully and have only settled a fraction of an inch, if at all.

I've never had OME without a winch though and have never had heavies; all mine have been medium. However, I'd buy them again in a second with no complaints.

Here is one from the Whipsaw trail. I didn't have enough rpm and stalled it. I did the bypass after the wheelie. I'm pretty sure I could have made it up with a little more RPM but I didn't want to stall higher up and come back down at speed. Ratpuke (in blue standing in the background) got a good picture from the other side.

Great poster shot! Just a little more weight in that roof rack and ... :hhmm::D

My son just bought a 1978 F150 4x4 from a buddy of mine, so now there are two old 78 trucks in the family. We drove it from Truckee to Petaluma and I had it at 70 mph down the mountain and most of the trip back, a little tank of a truck. :)

Nice Kevin! Time for a 13bt, eh? Bit more torque :-) did you whack your spare?

Did not bend anything AFAIK

More helpful feedback - thanks Chamba. I'm leaving the springs alone until I get more weight/miles on the truck. :)

Ordered new rubber for the ambulance doors. Funny the detail Toyota puts in these OEM parts, more or less a perfect fit. Look at that little hang-over sealing tab, not that it will last that long with the doors banging around but still kind of cool they make the effort. A little confusion at first on the part numbers as they've changed. Still debating on new rubber for the windows.

Ripped out all the PO's weird vinyl headliner material - PITA. Found a few more petrified wasp bodies :p. Had one larger and a few smaller places where the glass pulled off the foam. Going to pick up a small Evercoat repair kit or something like it and try to patch these. Also have one spot/crack on the outside gelcoat that I'll try to fix. May hold off on a headliner for a while - lots of indecision on how to go. Maybe that SOR thicker aftermarket one at some point. Funny and as mentioned earlier, all the rust on this 40 has been for the most part on the driver side and the top is no different. Overall seems to be in pretty good shape.

Stealing the part number image to put in the FJ40 Weatherstripping Guide thread. LMK if that is not ok.

Also, mind telling me your cost?
