Hey, great write up! I read through this like 3 times and prob still missed it... But what size Hardigg is this? Thnx sir and nice work.

Also curious about the dims on the Hardigg...

Also curious on Hardigg dimensions - see a few different ones on Ebay

***Were the dimensions of your sleeping platform given earlier in this thread? I just skimmed through it, but other than the 12" of clearance I didn't see anything. I will most likely copy this in the coming weeks.

nice!! I like this setup... I really like the case Idea for extra sleeping arrangement also!!

Great idea!

Is that the 1" stock? I am thinking about making something out of the 80/20 t-slot and was wondering if the 1" (1010) would be strong enough to support my weight or if I need to use something thicker like 1515.

I appreciate somebody bumping this up from back in the day. I am leaving on a 10 day camping trip at the end of this month. It is going to be 3 grown men (19, 26, and me, 50) and I am pretty sure my son and son-in-law did not want to go 3 wide in the RTT :hillbilly:!

So I read this and reread this and formed my battle plan. I built mine almost exactly like the OP. Since many have asked about a list of supplies for the frame, I am going to list them here.

12 pcs - 1x1x19.5"
21 pcs - 1x1x10"
8 each - 3 way corners
8 each - 4 way tees
2 each - 5 way junctions

I have not applied the top plywood yet but will today. I will attach some pictures to this later but overall, my dimensions are 42" long x 23" wide x 12" tall (w/o ply). When buying from 80/20 on eBay, try to look for the 1x1 tubing that is marked "used". It is great stuff and instead of spending $5 +/- for a 30" stick, it costs $1.50 +/-. There is nothing that looks used about it other than it has a sticker on each stick.

Good luck on your builds if you try this also. Very simple process, just takes a little forethought before assembly.

Up for input from those who've now done this via the Quick Frame setup:
  1. I need/want to preserve usage of my third row seats on occasion.
  2. I like the boxes I've got (pic below) - $29 each from WallyWorld - hunting and camping gear stores between the two.

I'd like to build similar frames to what's in this thread - one frame per storage box I've got. A single if I'm on my own out in the field, a second if it's more than me and I want to lay down a larger blow-up mattress. They'd sit over the box(es) when I decide to take them out, stay in my garage when not necessary.

Those boxes have wheels and really only roll in/out easily if I can life the front edge at a bit of an angle. And since I want to slide them in/out with the platform frames in place, I am thinking of the following platform design. Do you guys think these frames, minus some of the lateral pieces given the storage boxes I want to have underneath, would be "stiff" enough laterally? If it's a resolute "no", I can go with 1"x2" of the 10-series but that's at least double the price of tubing and connectors. Thx for your input...

I built the one right above your post. My opinion is that your design will not work. It is just my opinion though. I am not an engineer.

All of your horizontal pieces (L x W)will be 20" long (+/-). I'm not sure the 1x1 aluminum will span that far under weight. I also think that the 1x1 plastic connectors are pretty stout, but to span that far is liable to put too much leverage on them and 'torque' them beyond their design.

My personal opinion is that it will not work like you want it to. Take that for what it is worth.

This is on my list now... damn it MUD always costing me money and getting me in trouble with the wife!!!!!!

I also spoke quickly with the manufacturer. In short, they said the Quick Frame was established exclusively for "light duty". The fact that they don't offer engineering data like they do with the 10 series kind of tipped their hat here but also hearing from someone who's built/using this (albeit an obviously sturdier design than mine) is useful. I'm stubbornly pursuing a different approach....

This is a great thread.....very interested to continue watching what folks come up with via the Quick Frame product in their FJ's. Thx...

Love that folks are getting creative with this setup. I have moved to a proper drawer system but still think this is a great bang for the buck. Especially if you can source material from 80/20's eBay store.

If you look at post #50, I built it almost exactly like the original poster. My post is complete with pics and measurements and a 'cut' list. Not sure what else you need?

This is the only action shot I have of it. It is in my 100 series on the drivers side. I built it capable of fitting the 80 series and the 100.
