There must be reason RCV set it up that way, don't really want to drill the new flanges just would like the dowels to go into hubs a bit more. Plus I am already set on a path.View attachment 2399631
I have a rescue bit that will make quick work of removing broken studs and dowels next month on the trail. 😬

Maybe @sleeoffroad knows about the dowel size. I have a theory that RVC only makes toyota parts to order. Slee seems to stock RCV stuff where as other vendors do dropping shipping. I ordered my front flange kit on 7/6 and the vendor told be today that it still wont we ready to ship until 8/26. So I went on Slee's website and ordered the flanges since it shows in stock. I tried to call RCV without luck so no answer for me as well on the dowel sizing.

I got the axles from Slee there were the last set he had in stock. They are currently back ordered at RCV
It's sad the RCV is not answering the phone or returning calls.
I went to the machine shop yesterday with the hubs, flanges and the longer pins that I order, the longer pins did not fit in the holes in the flanges less then a thousand to big. Even though the guy at the shop said he could do the job over the phone and I waited a week for the appointment, when the guy look at the job he decided he did not want to do it.
At this point I was over it, I went home grabbed the short pins and the drill bit that RCV sent with the axles through them on the drill press and drilled the holes.
I only did fore of the holes, I think this well be fine. Done !!!!!!!!

I installed new brake shoes on the emergency brake. My Reg has been in the South West it's hole life so all the rest of the parts in there still look great.

Finished up the RCV axle install, new seals in the hubs, cleaned and regressed the bearings, installed the drive flanges with ARP studs and hard ware

The rear RCV are a two piece axle with a drive flange similar to the front. drive flange installed with dust cap.

The rear control arm bushing were toast so I ordered a full set along with the panhard bushings and had my good friend Shoppy press them in for me.

Been working on this little project, first thing was to make the mount.
Tack welded in place to make sure it would fit

Test fit after it was all burned in.

All painted up and bracket mounted.

Then I hit the first hiccup, It came with a NA8 fitting for the large hose that goes to the pump witch fits a 1/2" hose. The pump has a 5/8 hose.

Having never worked with NA fittings it was a crash course in NA fittings and I now have A small pile of extra fitting.
In the end I got a 8NA straight cut O-ring adapter to 10NA flare. The new fitting is on the left. I was happy to see the larger hole for more flow.

New larger fitting installed.

Installed and hoses plumed.

The new reservoir holds about three time the fluid has the cooling fins and accepts the same Toyota filter.

Great build. Are you happy with the 39's or any regret you didnt go to 40's?

Super happy with the 39s I went with this tire because it's one of the only tires that is taller then a 37 and still 12.50 wide. I do miss the power lost with the taller tire and 40s would have been worse

Been a while thought I would post some updates. The Parking Brake works for the first time in my ownership. I had replaced the brake shoes with non OEM shoes and they worked a little better but still would not hold on a steep hill. This time I used OEM shoes and the hand brake works as it should.

I added this last year to help with the parking brake. A friend made these but there is a "kit" out there from an Aussie company. The radius of the part changes the amount of cable that is pulled when you set the ebrake. My stock ebrake was almost at the top of the handle throw before it would set, even with new brake shoes etc. After putting this in the brake sets when the handle is only about half way up instead of all the way up. Was a nice addition. Might be something to look at if you think it would help.

Thanks Adam
I do have to pull the handle most of the way up, but it works good now and holds on steep hills. So I won't be changing things.
If you have a link in case anyone else is interested ?

I installed all new bushing on the rear control arms, the lowers weren't that bad the uppers were shot and allowing the rear axle to move around. at the same time I installed the eimkeith rear panhard correction bracket. The front and rear Pandhard bushing were replaced at the same time.

The difference in handling was very noticeable with all the new bushing. Everything just feels smoother and tighter on and off road. I know that this has been covered before but if you have not replaced all the bushing on your Reg do it, it really make a big difference.
I also think the Panhard bracket helped a lot in hi speed dune bashing at Sand hollow. Running the same Sand trail as last year at Hi speed it was easier to handle and more stable.

I wanted give a update on the front suspension, I had been running the OME springs and shocks and even through they work good once you try the more modern dual rate springs you can feel how superior they are.
My friend Gray ( GW nugget ) had a pair of Slinky mediums that he let me try out. All through they worked well, I felt that the spring rate was to stiff for my reg and that they would be better fore a heavier overland type build. Just like the OMEs I was running before they did not allow enough articulation in low speed rock crawling.
At the same time I tried a set of Dobinson 6" lift shocks. My thought was the longer travel shocks ( 12" ) would allow more articulation. But it just does not work that way with a lower lift. It may work with a three link, But with the stock control arms you only get so much articulation the arms themselves are the limiting factor. There just not enough articulation to use the full travel of the longer shocks.
They do however allow the front axle to drupe out to the point that my extended brake lines, Hydro assist lines and front drive shaft were all over taxed.
So with less the 100 miles and one trail ride the Slinky and the brand new shocks came out.
The Dobinson C97-146VT have one of the lightest spring rates out there and a low lift height. I found a slightly used set from a Mud member and ordered a set of the dobinson 4" lift shocks ( GS45-912 )
For Me this set up works really well, smoother ride on and off road, more articulation, less drupe it just works.
I am really happy with this set up, So is my wife and my check book.

The PO had the springs powder coated black.

Super Cool...
Did you leave in the front coil spacers?
Post sum Sand Hallow trip pics please.

No I am not running the coil spacers.
Picks coming

A lot of the field testing was done at Sand Hollow, the place is super fun and has everything from mild to wild. My Son Thayer and his girlfriend joined me for the trip and a great time was had by all.
