Of the above, I have one answer. Removing the wood junk is easy with a heat gun. I have taken some of mine off. I keep saying that it can all go, but I am too busy. Just heat it up with the heat gun and peel it off. Then clean up the remaining adhesive the same way.
Harbor Freight sells a heat gun for 19.99, or less if it is on sale, which it usually is at $9.99-12.99. Heat it up and clean it off with a stiff putty knife that is not very sharp. A heat gun is really just a big-time hair dryer. It works the same but makes enough heat to give you an afro. Don't use it on your thinning hair!

Congrats and see you at SNT. That's a good looking truck with all the goodies. Really, a nice find and a good price.

Congrats!

As far as lubrication on the windows: I would first just make sure they are clean with soap and water and a wet vac to pick up all of the sandy stuff that accumilates in them.

After they have dried Wurth makes a product designed for rubber and windows run channels that will help lubricate them after they are clean.

Wurth Rubber Care (Aerosol)

Welcome to the club!

OK, OK, what the hell does JAFW80 mean? hazing the new 80 guy, I got it! :)

at least I know what "baselining" means now, ie: proper maintenance

guess I gotta get the dorky 80's lingo down now, huh? :)

FYI, for you guys at surf & turf, will be there with my wife and daughter on saturday and plan to do the pozo run sunday. Here is a pic of my ugly mug, I won't be wearing the afro that day, it has weekends off of work. No beard now though....

Great find and for CALI. GREAT PRICE......

BTW it looks like it doesn't have a roof rack... Major Bonus!

Also you can save some $ by scoring a Used Hazard switch from a Cruiser or a Tercel. I got my Hazard switch for $10

I think it's a good price too. Welcome to 80 club, and see you next weekend.

you mean using a hazard switch for the cdl switch??

most guys do this as an emergency fix. It will work, it's just a switch:confused:.....but it will have the wrong icon.

Also, of the guys that do it. It's not like they're carrying an extra hazard switch in case it goes out, they are momentarily (till you get home, or another switch) doing without the hazard lights. They're either doing it b/c the CDL switch quit working, or till the right switch comes in.

Ummm, no I did it because I'm a broke A$$ in a rich mans game..... Plus I don't see spending $60 on a switch or a cup holder! But I would spend it on the cup holder before the damn switch with the right logo on it. Just stick a smiley face on it and you will know what it's for! It doesn't light up so no point having the right switch....

it has a factory roof rack, is this bad for some reason?

Um, well the roof racks are known to be rust collectors and are a little pain in the A$$ to remove! Then you have to liner your roof in some crazy alien looking pattern.

Ha Ha, mine didn't have a roof rack! :flipoff2:

No need for an "emergency switch" it's simple to lock the CDL without the switch. All of the ones that I know, use the flasher switch because they had one or got it cheap, it's pretty much the same switch, so why not? If your handy it's easy to change logo on them.

Don't know about the pannels but I would go to a Checkers or Autozone to get some sort of rubber conditioner or something. Looks like a clean and nice rig! Have fun with her!

well I got the wood paneling off, the glue is the bitch part, should come off okay but there will probably be some minor scratching due to the strength of the glue actually discoloring the plastic, no biggie, this is going to be a family 4x4, ordering a repair manual, and seat covers from SOR and a cdl switch and cup holder form slee, should have it cleaned up a bit before we leave for S&T, still gotta get all the dog piss outta the back of the car from the previous owner! :) smells like serious asssssssss......

... is there a writeup on how exactly the center diff diff lock works?

Noah,
If you are interested in how the transfer case + center diff works from an engineering perspective (FYI, it is quite complicated) then get the New Car Features (NCF) manual for a 1996 LX 450. There is a good section in that manual as well as a lot of information on other engineering details. The section on the engine is excellent.

You can download all Toyota manuals from TIS for $10 and a few hours of your time. The dl process used to be automated thanks to Natergator, but Toyota changed up their web site so now you will have to manually dl. TIS is still a huge bargain for those that are not lazy.

I can't remember the exact price and I'm too lazy to search for it but I seem to recall that CDan quoted someone something like $400 for a new carpet set, front to back. If you installed new carpet and bought new leather from Atlas then you would have more or less a new interior....or at least it wouldn't smell!

3M makes an adhesive remover that works wonders. Spray it on a soft rag and go to town on the wood trim.

You can also leave it running with the heat on full blast for ten minutes or so, and then get to rubbing the glue off. It softens it considerably.
