The aluminum strips are from McMaster: http://www.mcmaster.com/#8975k823/=ofmxaz and I just undid the stitching in the flap where the grommets would go and slipped them in. I'll take some pictures tonight if I remember.
The zippers hold the side curtains down and the magnets hold the curtain to the body very well. I might add more magnets for even better hold. Also, the aluminum strips assist in rolling up the side curtains, keeps them stiff.

I've got one ready to ship. Fight it out with Spike Strip, who was in line ahead of you.

This one does have a ding in the cutting surface (there when I received it) so it takes some fiddling to make it work, but I did mine with it. It could probably be made better with a couple minutes with a dremel and a stone tip. I didn't bother though.

I could see doing it without a tool, but it would not have been as clean, for sure.

2 brand new scalpel blades will do the trick. They are so sharp I didn't even need the handle to push the blade thru..

I made short order of all the holes with this.. On an OCD top! (thick canvas)
