I took the plunge and bought one of these punches to make quick work of my repro FST twist lock grommet. I should be done with it by mid next week, at which point it will go unused.

Anyone who wants to borrow it at that point, PM me and I'll send it to you if you pay the shipping both ways.

I'll post some pics of how well it hopefully works when I install the grommets this weekend.

(I am not attempting to sell this. If I have posted this in tech in error, please feel free to move or delete.)

I will make this tech.. What is a FST twist lock grommet?

For cleanly installing these. A grommet tool was not used here.

That was all done by hand, without any dies ? You just folded the tabs over and tapped 'em tight ?

Yes. Install the outer ring first by forcing the four tabs thru the fabric, then put the rear flat washer piece on and fold over the tabs. Then slice the fabric with an exacto knife.

When I bought my bikini top from OCD I decided I wanted twist locks at the corners of my windshield so OCD loaned me his tool. WAY easier with the proper tool. That was a few years ago but I highly recommend taking him up on the tool loan.

Responded to PM's. Just finished with this tool on Saturday. There is one side that is slightly dinged on the punch that would barely punch through my thick sonnendeck. I doubt it will have any problem getting through canvas. I'm going to hit it with a file before I send it out. My thoughts are that I send it to you, then when you are done, you just pass it forward to the next guy or gal and PM me when you do, next person PM me when you get it etc etc. And then if you lose it or keep it we will all bombard you with PM's and publicly shame you on MUD. I'll pay for the first ship and then you just pay to ship it to the next guy. Post up if you think this is a good or bad plan.

I think it's a good or bad plan.

Actually great of you to offer it up and pass it along. Keep a log of where it's been. Have them shoot you a pic of it sitting on the cruiser. "The Adventures of Punchy."

TC stark. You are up.
This tool made EZ work of the job. It would have taken three or four times as long to do this job with other implements of destruction and with this the washers fit easily with no guess work.

THANKS CAL40!

This tool is available now for anyone who would like to use it. I was hoping there would be more demand for it. Reply here if interested
