Yeah with the normal amount of city driving that I do, during non-softball and non-mtbing months probably 80% city driving. During the months were I am doing more highway miles I normally to 50% or 60% highway if not more... Still only average about 10mpg regardless. The few times where I have done an entire tank on the highway I can get 12-13mpg but those are very rare occasions. The simplicity and easy starting nature of the TBI/EFI setup is what gets me.

Yeah and it’s not quirky like a carb. It’s worth it to me 100%
Seems to be especially if your 2F is still in decent/healthy condition. Wonder if the self-learning versions would yield any more MPGs? And if mpgs would see a slight increase with a 5spd vs. 4spd.

People that put in 5 speeds and then install 4.10 from 3.70 end up getting a few less RPm at cruise but not a ton.

I think maybe the self learning.

Looking at how much fuel runs into the intake with the injectors I bet it’s a byproduct of old motor design with new delivery.

Is that the full carrier limited slip or a spider gear one?

Full carrier being set up by the best gear man I know clear across the country @RustyNailJustin because that’s the key to these things.

Enough about gas mileage. How bout some tech.

@dnp is a local club member and friend that went through the exhausting process of having a nice, form fitting carpet set made for 60 series Land Cruisers.

He finally peer pressured me into getting a carpet set for Blue.

My dog jumped on the pad immediately

I laid it all out to rest like the instructions say.

My carpet was complete and not torn but holy crap was it nasty and faded

For comparison sake. Yuck.

My tub looked good. I got in there and cleaned it good while everything was out.

The rear is easy. Use a little pick to get one screw started and the rest will follow along.

I had some light surface rust on the back of the rear seat so I hit it with my favorite stuff.

It’s a unreal transformation. Rear took me about an hour. Maybe less. Someone at some point put an extra pad under the rear carpet. It was in perfect shape so it went back in.

Also on thetailgate pad I just installed the new carpet over the old with staples.

The kit comes with fenderwell Carpet covers but my plastic was good and OEM looking so they stayed.

Off to the middle and front.

Awesome! Looks great. I got the same kit but in brown sitting in my garage right now.

Were you not tempted to add sound deadening while you were in there?

-Ed

Man, I was torn. My 60 is so quiet compared to the other Cruisers I have that it just seems silly back there since there is so little heat there. The extra pad I had made the decision very easy.

That said.......

I ripped into the middle section. You have to remove the bottom rear seat. Front seats. Console and front lower seatbelts.

Stereo installers are to wiring what muffler shops are to welding. Holy s***. All this was buried under the carpet. Check out the 3 self tappers for the amp ground wire.

All clean. I had a couple of rust spots I treated

Then I laid out a few sheets of Noico. Only because I had a box. Also before the Noico cops come after me, I know I’m supposed to roll out all the dimples but that’s dumb. It’s going nowhere on the horizontal surface and it will bake in once hot.

Being a bit of an insomniac I stayed up thinking about all the holes I was about to have to cut for the 1984 tool apparatuses that are located under the drivers seat.

After laying them side by side I realized I would rather have a good sound and heat barrier from solid carpet than a couple or 10 holes in the carpet.

I removed the clips for the jack handle and smacked the rubber band hook flat with a dead blow and laid on the Norco.

I’ll keep the jack under there and the original tool bag, just no rubber band

This filling in of all the holes in the center took 4 complete sheets of material. I think that’s almost 1/2 the box.

I had already removed the rear heater and lines (for sale) when I did the AFI install just for simplicity sake.

OK. With Noico lay and cleanup I’m into the middle section for 3 hours. It certainly turned out nice. I’ve got to move on to the front section to lay this down completely but so far so good.

Cut out for the seat latch first. Used a soldering iron to cauterize the cuts

I did not make full square cuts around the seat holes because I wanted these bolts to be my anchor points. Tight so nothing moves. I may have to enlarge to get the seats in. I drilled the holes with soldering iron.

Next I look note of how the OEM flaps were cut for the seat and duplicated and burned edges

Clean. Tight. Happy.

Seat is in and the rear edges are trimmed and stapled to the wiring tunnels on the edge.

Another hour to pull the front. Scrape the leftover padding off the oem insulation clean and lay 2.5 sheets of Noico.

Lunchtime then on to the final push. I still have lots of holes to cut.

This little OEM shifter remover is awesome.

After all the time crying and cussing removing the OEM rubber dampening over the years I feel like a real dope adding more to my cars. Hopefully it is worth it. Will see. It’s cheap and easy once you get the hang of it.

Carpet laid in Nicely. I made as few holes as possible

4FFBC3B6-E566-4D34-92F6-43D32AA9BBC4.jpeg

About another hour in and I’ve got the front set in place. I’m about to fry in the seat holes to hold it steady.

I decided to use the old carpet as a hole template for shifters. I cut them smaller and will enlarge as needed. Technically doing this you would not have to deal with pulling the shifter. At least it allowed me to be able to keep the Tcase shifter in.

Final push took a little longer than I was expecting because I picked up the wrong end of my soldering iron. Holy crap. The final section and interior went on one handed.

Last pics.

So in the end there was a good bit of cutting. The front is the hardest section by far. It’s not bad, just takes time to get it right.

I’m super happy with this. Truly a quality product. I went ahead and ordered the mat kit just now because my rubber mats looked so terrible installed.m

My hand is branded for life to boot.

Yes. CCOT. Thanks!

Since I'm working on my AFI install at the moment, I have a few questions about your adventures

-where did you hook the ECT wire?
-what spark plugs are you using?

Thanks!

ECT (engine coolant temp) goes to the TBI temp sender.

I’ve used stock plugs. I think DUI recommends plugs with a wider gap if you’re using their distributor, but I doubt it makes an actual difference.
