That's some orange! Great work embarking on this HG. My hats off to you for taking this on. I know from personal experience this can be daunting. I'm just trying to formulate a plan to do some maintenance and it's nothing as involved as yours and I'm hesitant. But like you, I'll dive in and get after it. Great work thus far, can't wait to see it run.

Yep :) the O’reilly’s near me doesn’t have much of a selection in contrasting paint :)

Just thought that I’d clean it up while I’m in there.

I has been tough especially since I had to take a couple months break to work on my house.

It will be a really nice looking, land cruiser sized paperweight if it doesn’t run :)

Installed oil cooler today. I put in a new valve, spring, and brass crush washers (from Toyota). Valve dropped by itself per the manual. Didn’t paint because you can’t see it. I also installed a new oil pressure sender (loctite 242) and cleaned the electrical connectors.

Also put three gaskets new gaskets in.

Rented a 600lb torque wrench. Got lucky, rental fee was $20 a day, got the Bill via email and they charged me $100 freight (to ship it). They didn’t say anything about freight, called back and they removed the freight charge :)

So, $20 :) bonus

Replacing the water pump. I’m going to flush it while the pump is off. Also taking out the thermostat that I just put in to flush.

I’ll put the water pump back on and then flush again. I don’t have a radiator in and the upper and lower radiator hoses are attached.

Then put the thermostat back in finally.

I want to get it clean inside since I’m going to install a new radiator.

Let me know what you think.

Do I put any sealant/loctite on the water pump to engine bolts?

thanks

Good progress here. I skipped servicing the oil cooler when I did my HG. I flushed the block until it ran clean. Maybe 2 gallons. Nothing on the water pump. Don’t overthink it!

Thanks, appreciate it. I’m trying to take my time and do it as right as I can.

thanks again.

I’ve got all of the heater hoses off now. Can I reverse air pressure/flush the dash heater core with compressed air (blow out, put in distilled water, blow out)? Will it work?

Does it matter?

Thanks,
