Does this mean the 80 series auto has an adapter? I know its been in the works for quite a few years.

The application pictured / my build is a A442F / 1HDT..from what I understand the tail housing bolt pattern and 19 spline output is the same on the gas and diesel 80 series A442F trans..so i think the answer to your question is an FJ80, with a trans that is 19 spine output, will connect..(the bell housing and some internals vary between gas and diesel 80 series A442F trans)..hopefully someone can confirm this is just my understanding and I’m no expert..is the FZJ80 A343F 19 spline output as well?

George AKA cruiser brothers is the human cruiser manual, he probably knows.

Here’s a couple of pics of the front half of the case with the BB clocked so the tcase is closer to the body. The trans doesn’t have a mount so it’s a couple of inches lower than stock, just resting on top of the crossmember.. probably gonna cut the floor where the rear heater core fits and be able to clock the case higher towards the floor-

Does anyone have a black box in a vehicle they run on road trips? Kris from NWF said they get hot. Has anyone experienced this? Kris also told me you can run a pump and a front mounted cooler to cool it. Has anyone does this? My vehicle will be road and trail. Trying to see if I need the extra pump and cooler...

@dirtyboots Did you get your rig on the road with the Blackbox?

Yes this is true. You need to talk with @MountNGoat who can tell you how he and valley hybrids solved this problem. But they have a cool thermostatically controlled oil pump, cooler and reservoir.

@fjdiesel He just did a California to Montana trip in it, no problems with overheating in its current configuration (pump/cooler/reservoir)....but there were problems with things getting too cold :bang: ...The rolling experiments continue.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Good to know that a cooler does work.

I did talk to NWF yesterday. They have the updated case ready and are shipping me one next week. It will only hold about 1qt of fluid. They did not know if that will keep it cool. I am now planning on putting in the new case and running the pump setup... My drivetrain is done and drivable so at this point I will finish with the black box..

I've been talking with NWF and Georg @Valley Hybrids today after some of the previous replies to this thread.

According to NWF, the new case piece will double current capacity. I'm not sure what current capacity is but I'll venture it is more than 1 qt ;)

According to Georg, the new case piece adds the provision to run a pump setup. In my use case, he said the pump setup was not needed; ~34 miles of backroad driving to get to Rubicon(~45mph average speed;) ) He said extended freeway time may require the pump setup.

@Lil'John that is the same info I have gotten. I would like the ability to take it on week long trips. So my plan now is to run the Tilton pump. Cooler Pumps - Tilton Engineering and for space I think I will run the Mishimoto 10 row cooler Universal 10-Row Oil Cooler and because I don't want the pump running all the time. Like my short 15 mile trip to work. Or when I get to go to Rubicon!!!(soooo jealous your so close!!) To fix that I think I will order this fan controller from DD Electronic Fan Controller 70 Amp with Bluetooth Control It can be set to turn on at 150 degrees and it looks like it can be set to turn off 30 degrees lower. The 150 is a little higher turning on point than I wanted. But I will drill and tap the sensor into the lower portion of the case so I would think it should be pretty accurate. Please let me know if you have any better solutions. This is just on paper right now, but its what I have penciled out today...

@fjdiesel Your list looks pretty good. If I were going to go with a thermostatic relay, I'd go with one of the fully sealed ones from DC Control style:

I am running one of the FK-95s on my S10 with Dodge Intrepid fans. Wire directly to battery with fusible link, stuff sensor in the radiator near the outlet port(ie coldest location), and put the LED in the cab to monitor. I LOVE it. It is cool watching when the fan fires up because of going 'slow' vs highway speed.

For a 'small' oil cooler, I could see dropping to the FK-45s. Basically, it creates a variable speed fan out of one that isn't ;)

@Lil'John Thanks for the link. I sent them an email asking a few questions. Looks like a quality built unit.

For those who want to see the difference in the old case design and the new design. I switched from the toyota splitcase to an atlas 2, hence the different adapter. I am still planning on running a cooler with the extra capacity. All of this is behind a 13bt and h55.

my black box has likely 30,000 km on it behind my h55f. At times loaded for bear. I drove to California from Edmonton Alberta and saw some good heat in nevada while doing it. No troubles to date but I've been wanting to run some sort of cooler. My plan was a thermal siphon with a cooler. flood the box completely and let it breath to a powersteering like reservoir mounted as high as I can.... then finned tubing on the return line. Hot oil out the top of the case and cooler oil into the bottom. that was the thought....
