Started mocking up

Not a great outdoor day today, so I thought I would put some heat shield on the firewall. However, I knew I needed to cut a hole for the AC lines, since the BJ74 is keeping it's AC and the donor did not have AC.

I cut the pattern out of the BJ74 firewall, put it up to the space for it, and cut it out. I went to just check and see how the fit was, and low and behold--no brackets! Another reason for a donor vehicle!!

Went to the old firewall, and found the brackets I was missing. Old firewall had 4 stud brackets, the new only had 2 (Heater core and Blower. I also needed another lower bracket. Only had 1, needed 2.

Old firewall--note the 4 handing stud brackets, and the 2 side by side raised bolt brackets near the footwell.

And the new firewall, where they are missing.

So drill them out I did!.

Then I had to put the whole assembly together to figure where exactly to mount the brackets. I just bolted the brackets to the AC unit, and bolted the whole thing in.

Once I mark them, I will remove them, clean them up, and weld them in.

By the way, I could use a blower motor housing for a LHD 70 series. As you can see-mine has a hole in it. I don't need the motor or resister--just the housing.

PM me if you have one

I have been thinking about the wheels I am going to put on the 74. It had 33/10.50/15 which fit nicely. 4" BS. 15 X 8 rims
However, with the fender flares, they now sit 1 3/4 in from the flare edge on the rear, and 1 1/2 in the front. Measures on the bulge, not the tread. They are not centered in the wheel wells because there is no weight on the truck. REALLY SITS HIGH with the new ironman springs. And NO the jack is not holding it up!
Should they be out closer to the edge.. Pretty tough to find a 3 inch backspace rim, most are 4 inch for the 6X5.5 bolt pattern.
I am looking to go to 16 X 8 rims, and a 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grappler which is 11.4 wide, so that takes the 1 ¾ down to 1 ¼ in. So the only way to get them out is to go with a spacer? How Much? Looking for input!!!:)
Pic is with the 15 X 8 rim and 33 /10.50 tires

I'm assuming you opted for the FRP flares, as opposed to the factory flares, solely because of the ridiculous price the factory flares cost?

Yes--the factory are ridiculous. I would rather have them, but--you know

i think the tires look fine where they are ...
but that becomes a personal opinion.

It's starting to grow on me. Maybe a half inch out would satisfy me. Hard to tell when it is so high up

The fender flares look good to me.

Where did you source them?

Yes, go with the 285/75/16s. I've got those on Toyota steel wheels and they look great.
