Is that a composite fiber gasket going on a 13bt?..... talk me through why John thought that is a good idea
boost is going to eat that gasket in my mind, why not use a mls gasket
It’s been covered above. Oem gaskets were fibre and lasted 25yrs with stock boost and shoddy Japanese cooling system maintenance so it’s not like the boost will eat through it anytime soon.. assuming these Engines Australia gaskets are as good or better than the old OEM.

Head holds a pressure test, so going with this until a replacement can be found. New head will get decked to the correct RA to be compatible with a MLS gasket when that day comes

Every engines Australia gasket on my 13bt rebuild failed and was replaced with OEM. Every.

I only used OEM MLS head gasket.
this is what i am afraid of, hopefully he is a "luckydragon" 😅
It'll work till it doesnt...
my first attempted HG job went about 15km 🙄 glad i had the egt and water temp hooked up

Kinda missing the forest through the trees here guys..

The only reason this isn’t getting a MLS head gasket is because the fracture in the head, no point in wasting time and money having the machine shop deck the head to the correct RA for a MLS headgasket if it’s getting replaced down the road.

Whether that’s in 2 months or 2 years remains to be seen. I’m sure this will be fine till then.

Progress, things are coming along, replaced all the gaskets with oem besides the hg. Hopefully button it up tomorrow

Well it’s alive. Long day wrenching and a grumpy start even after bleeding the fuel well. To be expected.

Dumped a foot of snow overnight and it’s really hard to have self control and not go for a long snow slog before I double triple check everything

Well earned celebratory beers after

Weird seeing the oil pressure needle move more than about a quarter inch

It’s nice to finally see actual numbers and be able to baseline it a bit more accurately. Oil pressure is around 80psi on startup which seems high but comes down to idle around 30psi.

If I remember correctly, there is a section in the FSM that shows the oil pressure values at different times.

Gauge looks good though.

Oh ya its within spec, FSM states 85 psi at 3000rpm, 4.3psi at idle "or higher" whatever that means..

I'll check the relief valve when I have the chance

crazy, i figured it didnt get much higher than 4 or 5 times the idle pressure by the gauge....
idk what they were thinking there with that POS from factory

I was a bit shocked at first, especially because I’m running a 5-40 synthetic.

I mean it’s basically an old tractor, with a new sending unit I was surprised the needle moved as much as it did :p

Those redarc gauges look really nice. Very cool! I was kinda shocked at the price, 😳 but I do like That analog look.

I still want to change from the Auber someday to either an all in one screen or a couple analog gauges.
Red Arc offers up to 2 separate readings per gauge which takes some of the bite out of the price. 😊
Yes, I know the photo sucks. 😁 The bottom one is oil pressure / water temp.

They definitely are pricey, I waited for a good sale from 4x4modsaustralia.com.au and got something like 20% off. shipping was murder with the pillar gauge pod.

Some people like the fast and furious dash look but I'm not one of them. Some of their gauges have 3 inputs, depending what you want to monitor. For me I have
-Boost/EGT
-Oil pressure/Coolant temp/Additional temp (trying to decide between putting a probe in the H55 or just ambient air temp.
-Dual battery and Alternator output.

I also added a low coolant alarm from Redarc, similar to the engine watchdog.

Playing around with the night mode on the gauges, colour and brightness change when you turn on the headlights which is a nice feature. I might pull the cluster out for the 400th time to put the green sleeves back on the bulbs to see if the color is close to matching.

Pictures, because everyone likes pictures.

that was the only reason i bought autometer as they had a style that looks just like the factory gauges, and especially at night when you dont really want light contrast happening in your vision

check these out too.. map lights, you can get them in red too for night time
