BJ60 to HJ61 Body swap...the five year plan turned right now plan!

1. Painted the dash grey tonight with some kind of vinyl paint...seems to work pretty good. Not a direct match with the body color, but it's now grey instead of brown!

2. Oh, yeah, and if I ever attempt to tint a rear window again (ever) it will be too soon...and if you hear that I'm about to go back on that word then simply punch me in the face :bang::bang::bang:

Yes tinting is one of those things you really can't pull off in one shot. It takes years of tips and tricks to really have it down to a professional level.

At least cruiser windows don't need shrinking, thats where it all goes wrong for me.

I don't paint, fibreglass, drywall mud, and come to think of it window tint would fit in there.
Yeah, something that needs the 'touch', just not mine.

FRIGGIN TOUCHDOWN PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right...there is a body landed on a frame with bolts that line up! BAM!

I'm leaving in exactly one month today for a 6-day vacation and this truck WILL be done (at least done enough to comfortably and safely drive to the interior that is).

After numerous REALLY precarious situations today with the body hangin in mid air by awkwardly positioned jacks and such...I touched down the back end and then slowly began to lower the front. THANKFULLY I remembered to slide the steering column back into its sleeve...winning!

Ok, pictures of a body on a frame...which isn't actually exciting to look at, but it's a huge milestone for this guy.

Wombat, it was very sketchy on many levels throughout the day yesterday, so I was very glad to have not been crushed or had it topple over on me throughout the lowering process . Red Green would've been proud...but it was borderline part of one of those "preventable" commercials about injuring oneself unnecessarily.

Cruiserpilot, I'm sure you could have them. I thought about keeping them in case I need them again in the future for something else, and then I looked around my shop and yard and thought, "Look at all the stuff collecting dust..." So I think having them go towards something I know will be useful is well worth it...come and get 'em :-)

Tonight I connected stuff to do with liquids.
- Reconnected heater related piping
- Reconnected all brake lines and re-attached line to frame with new rubber clamps
- Reconnected fuel lines and re-attached line to frame with new rubber clamps

1. Spent two hours looking for the throttle rod which attaches on the firewall side...found it on my work bench under like 4 other things :bang:

2. Installed front bezel and new mount cushions as the PO obviously replaced the originals with what you see in the pic. It worked, but I figured I'd might as well do them all OEM just for kicks. And the repainted hood catch/release too.

3. Talked to John at RADD today about a few little things, so I'll be getting a couple oil (low and high pressure) hoses made up tomorrow morning at Duncan Hose & Hydraulic as well as picking up an IP Diaphragm from John as well because my rpm's are creeping up and I have some smoke out the tailpipe.

Nice! I'm loving seeing all those clean fresh pieces come together. Must be the best part of the project for you.

Thanks GTS...I am indeed enjoying this part much more than the first four months!

Tonight...

1. Re&re IP diaphragm. I have a new respect for dentists as I used a mirror to remove the cotterpin and washer instead of the 8mm nut. I installed a new cotterpin and here's hoping that that method was an approved one! Very glad I didn't have the fenders on the truck yet as that would've been a real PITA of a job if not.

Sweaty had noticed I was blowing blueish smoke last year when we went up to the Boulduc Plane Crash site, so I mentioned it to John @ RADD and he said it was likely the diaphragm. I had also noticed that after leaving the truck at RADD for a number of weeks at the beginning of this project, when I picked it up the idle was higher than usual (and it was at 1100rpm before that!). So, both of those pointed to the diaphragm so we'll see how much of a difference there is once I fire it up again :-)

2. Re&re oil hoses (high & low pressure).

3. Installed fuel filler neck and hoses.

4. Custom cut the tranny and T-case shifter locations as they were different than the BJ.

good on you for changing the oil lines to the filter from the vacuum pump, had the small supply line blow on me, you'd be amazed at how quick you can lose 5 quarts....damn 3b still wouldnt knock! :flipoff2:

Thanks for the heads up on those lines earlier franken60! I figured do it while I had easy access :-)

Tonight:
1. Ran most of the main wiring harness.
- repaired/replaced door light switches.
- Repaired a few worn/exposed wires.

2. Touched up undercoating areas that I missed the first time.

3. Began putting parts of the dash back together.

Hey, has anyone ever done any brazing??? I need to braze my front windshield where I welded the firewall back onto the body. ANYONE???

Brazing... Been awhile... are u looking to fill holes???? Have you thought about soldering it... less heat used for soldering than brazing...

hellbent, the connection where the lower windshield connects to the upper firewall was brazed from factory so I wasn't sure if there's something about brazing that would be better/different than just welding it? It's also where the window seal sits too, so maybe it has to do with brazing filling the hole more easily and not having to grind down a weld if it's uneven?

Bit by bit...got a painter lined up for next Saturday so stuff's gotta get together! It's a bit of a lego truck at the moment, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it all one color soon :-)

1. Rear upper hatch and lower tailgate are mounted, fitted and sealed. Locking parts yet to be installed as I painted them up today.

2. All doors hung, fitted, sealed.

3. Radiator fitted to front bezel.

4. Front right fender fitted. There was a very very slight rub with the door when it opened so I took it back off to get access to the door hardware and made a very slight adjustment and it seems to just clear now!
