Hey sorry guys I missed some of your posts here... My bad! Anyway yeah I still owe you some pics from BM..! Anyway, still need: windshield (trying to find used, locally), glovebox door, gauge cluster and that is about it..

We need some pics of Burning Man!!!

Good to hear you are working on the piggie agiain.

What is with the glove box door? 'Cuz i need one mang. ;)

What did you do, miss the glovebox door on eBay? I have a really good
snipe program that almost gaurantees a sure fire win....

auctionsniper? that thing is the ish.

diesel's lookin good man...really clean, haha

Yeah I tried to snipe that exact one but I did not bid high enough ($30 and it was at $17). Doh! I have time so I'll keep poking around patiently.. :)

Man that looks like a tall engine. Have you run into much fitting issues with fitting the body over the frame?

I got my body on a few days ago, and it looks like I am going to have to relocate the fuel tank, cut rear fenders and front fenders....

Spent some time tonight pondering just this.. I really don't think it'll be too hard actually, a little trimming here and there. But I did double check, unless I want to give myself a 2" or 3" body lift I am going to have to trim out those buckets where it interferes with the place in the body for the rear seat.. So that will be interesting and about as hard as it will get I think.. I am also going to do a "Royal Rose" rear body trim and move the frame up about 2-3" in the rear for clearance.. It will make more sense when I get to it.. Anyway, Royal did it a few years ago with his 55 that Brian Steen (Ridgerunner above) now owns and it made a world of difference in reduction of 55 'drag ass' syndrome.. So I'm planning on this too also because the rear sill had a little bit of rust/rot in it as well...

For fuel tanks I will definetley have ot go custom as nothing will fit for me either, neither the 80 or the 55 tanks.. So I am hoping I can maybe talk Royal (who wrote the trails article about an aux tank in a 80, and has built a few) into helping me out with this as well. It will be expensive otherwise unless I come up with something creative. Doh! I am hoping for 40 gallons if I am lucky so it might actually involve two tanks possibly, which means maybe a WVO conversion as well :)

I was under the impression WVO directly injected into your engine leaves deposits and leads to engine failure? This is a Biodiesel build up after all. ;p

waste vegetable oil

Yes but I have been hearing of some long term damage to engines with using WVO so ideally I would have a heated second tank (or maybe a main tank) and them be able to run higher blends of biodiesel in it, say 100% in the winter. That would be neat.. Andre

Hey Nick no word back from him so I'm not sure if he's MIA or what unfortunately.. :( I have some more updates to post up but my camera is MIA.. Doh!

OK a bunch of updates.. Again this is a little premature as I havn't finished all this stuff...

1) I finally sold the bread truck.. I basically got too lazy to tear it down and I found out guys were only getting $800 or so in scape for the aluminum, so I put it in the paper for $700 and got $650.. Guy who bought it is going to turn his '90 Dodge into a dually with it, using the big industrial truck rims off the truck, and make the truck itself into a chicken coop :)

I also had to remove one of the rear duallies to get it to fit on his trailer.. Then he drove it all the way up to Idaho..!

First I started doing some motor work. Getting the block heater out was a bitch but only because I didn't know how it worked.. Eventually when I dropped the back side tab, it was pressed in, so I welded a little piece of chain to it and ripped it out, sort of like a slide hammer.. I also never understood why the cummins block heater was "so good" - better than any others I've used where 20 minutes alone lets it fire right up in the dead of winter.. It's because its a wand sytle heating element directly in the coolant jacket that is around the cyl walls.. A lot of them (I think) are in place of freeze plugs. I was planning on buying a Kim Hotstart style tank coolant circulating heater, for about $100, which allows it so your heater is warm as soon as you start the truck and it circulates the coolant around... The Kim Hotstart is a better design but I'm not too worried about it and will probably stick wit hthe traditional $25 Cummins block heater again...

I traded my low mount turbo for a high mount from a Ford style 4BT. The 4BTs are in both Chevy and Ford vans, but the Fords use the highmount seen here. I thought the Fords would use hte actual same turbo but it appears a little smaller with a bigger exhaust housing (18cm2 instead of 16cm on the Chevyies -- I will be switching to a 9cm for much more power). I traded mostly because I wanted the manifold because I want to move my turbo up and out instead of down and in the firewall, like last time. But the problem is the high mount turbos might be too high mount.. Proffitt has installed a few of these high mount style in cruisers with no problem, but I want the manifold to be out and up instead of just "up" so I was thinking I might chop the manifold and reweld it as shown by my little line there:

Here are old photos of the exhaust box I made on the last pig, which I am trying to avoid this time, by moving the turbo up, if possible...

I also went to town doing even more cleaning including the timing cover inside and out, and all along the front of it.. I lucked out because it was all pretty easy to get to but on the injection pump side it is super dirty so I will have to borrow a pressure washer to clean it up, which I havn't done yet... It doesn't look like much but there is a thick layer of really grimy black soot / oil / dirt mostly from old leaky gaskets.. So I am basically taking everything apart I can while I'm here and will completely regasket the motor then paint it...
