Next thought I'd throw in some funk pics of a burning man bike I built later that night.. Took a girls bicycle that I bought at the DI (mormon version of salvation army) for $8 and chopped it up and turned it into a lean mean chopper type bike.. Took about two hours.. It ride sort of standing completely vertical, with your hands completely forward to reach the handlebars... Pretty funky!

Next, late last week cruised up to Logan to the chopped top 55 that I bought to scavenge parts.. Was a pretty good parts run, but I did not get everything I was hoping for.. Still need:

engine sensors off F or 2F engine with coorspeonding gauges.
Gauge clutster pad, glove box bad
windshield

and that is really it I think...!

Damon stipping off some partsm and other misc photos of the rig...

TJ here is a closeup of the tailgate.. It actually is not that bad rustwise (mostly surface) but it does have this ding. Had a big bee hive in it so we decided not to take it but if you want it let me know and I'll grab it next time I am up there...

On friday bolted everything up and turned it into a rolling chassis.. This sure was neat, I suppose its starting to feel like we are back working on a car agian because there is something there :)

We are running the 16.5" dukes of hazard style rims on it to have a set of pusharounds until I can afford / buy the 34s or 35's that I will end up running...

Also seen is a photo of all the stuff we ripped off the parts 55...

Next, Damon me and my neighbor managed to wrangle the body onto the frame. Of course did not get any pics of how we got it on the frame but it was pretty odd how we got it on there, one end at a time carefully making sure no dents/etc. In all not too heavy, 4 guys could move the whole body, but three probably cannot...

There are only two areas where I can see that the frame interferes with the 55.. The first is the rear wheel inner wheelwells.. The 80 frame is about 6" wider in the rear.. Normally, the 55 frame tucks just inside the rear wheel wells but because of the extra width it interferes.. So I will need to do some trimming before I can lower the body. I have the body shimmed on the frame with wooden blocks about 6" from where it should sit. So as you see it, you could say there is a 6 inch "body lift" or something like that...

Front blocks, so you can see that I guess it is a tripod..

Plan is, before I do any cutting is to make sure I get everything positioned exactly how it will sit on the frame.. At this point I have a lot of things to purchase before I can make some real prgress as far as modifying the body... I basically have to mod the body for body mounts and have to modify the transmission cover, and dash. Need to have the body sandblasted before that happens, and need ot have the parts before I can start cutting..

One more spot where I think the body will interfere... So I might have to do some trimming up on the body where it might interfere with rear coil spring bucket...

Very very cool, awesome up dates man. It must have been nice getting everything sand blasted I have spent the last week scrubbing the hell out of the frame to get ready for paint. It looks like the guy had a P.S. box leak for what seems like years and just let it leak all over the place. I had so much gunk on it its insane.

You are about 2 weeks ahead of me...I will be rolling the frame under shortly...

Awesome work...

P.S. nice bike....Me and my brother are going to make it to burning man in the up and coming years...

Here is where the body mounts from the 55 mount up in the rear, exactly right over the frame, so I will have to build new mounts on both the body and the frame at least in the rear...

I will also have to build a custom tank I believe, if I want to keep it in the rear.. Mostly because the rear crossemember is where the fuel tank in the rear would be. You can see the access panel in relationship to the crossmember here.. So bummer on that but gives me a chance to do something custom with the tank which I sort of want to do..

So that is really about it...

I am feeling a little down because I definetely have some big expenses coming up and no idea how I am going to be able to afford them at this point... They are:

Still have to pay / pickup the rebuilt trans ($1400)
Have to buy correct input gear for the transfer case before I can bolt up ($300)
have to get body sandblasted ($300)
and I think I now have to rebuild the engine because I noticed a coolant leak out of the back of the headgasket (~$1200 - $800 in parts, $400 in machining etc)
Plus I also want to switch manifolds and put on a bigger turbo before I get it all bolted up, so that is another $400-$500 or so...

So I have some big costs and not sure where the $$ will be coming from.. I guess I'll just keep on truckin as much as I can for now...

Keep at it Andre! Looks great.

I feel you on the budget pains, in the same boat. I am just trying to do a lot of prep work now on my FJ55 project. The frame is almost done getting cleaned up and then I plan to spray it with zerorust. What gun did you use to spray the zerorust? I picked an HVLP gun up last week at Harbor Freight for like 30 bucks and plan to use it to do all the zerorust and paint on the truck. I agree with you on the zerorust, it is a great paint and is cheap. It thins well and I gallon of it will get you very far. I plan to use only a gallon on the frame, axles, underbelly and other misc parts. I used zrust on my 40 frame and underbelly and it has stayed in perfect shape, now 4 years + old.
