It has these funky earlier style hinges that I was unaware of.. I will need these so I will have to go back to get them..

What year are those hinges? Those are off the pimpy painted topless Pig, correct?

Nice work man, nice work!

First, I LOVE this paint.. Zerorust.. It thins with zylene, like a bed liner type material, so my thought on it is that it is sort of like a bed liner without the rubberization or something like it.. It leaves a hard plastic coating that is very tough to penetrate, sort of like a powdercoating almost except that you stray it on. Also again when you do the math, it is super cheap, $58 a gallon but all of this paint (three coats on the axles, two on the links, and quite a bit on the frame where there are two coats, all less than a 1/2 gallon.. cheaper than rattle cans!

Sorry for quoting all out of order, just getting caught up...

Have you seen how the Zerorust endures? I am wondering if you have seen any SLC rigs that have worn Zerorust through a few winters.

Thanks!

Hey guys just back from burning man, had a blast... Bike held up great even after a few wrecks particularly one afternoon including lots of margaritas and lots of people having trouble with the height on it but nevertheless had a lot of fun..! Back to work on the cruiser! Anywhoo, thanks for the posts guys.. TJ don't worry will definetely send you those pics.. Badnews is I think I need those hinges so I hope you have a set of those.. I am going to attempt to snipe that glovebox door, halfway decent price! Best, Andre

Next, late last week cruised up to Logan to the chopped top 55 that I bought to scavenge parts.. Was a pretty good parts run, but I did not get everything I was hoping for.. Still need:

engine sensors off F or 2F engine with coorspeonding gauges.
Gauge clutster pad, glove box bad
windshield

and that is really it I think...!

Damon stipping off some partsm and other misc photos of the rig...

No bodero sighting? where is that kid? I love seeing that 55 getting traded hands everyother year till there is nothing left...

Looking like a bitchin build man.. I am digging Damons new BJ!

cheers

I've had zero on my truck for a while. I think it holds up well. I bought it for the reasons andre noted. It's pretty cheap when it comes down to it. You can thin it easily. It's a paint with high solids content. I think I have 2 or 3 gallons at home too. I've even brushed it on and it looks good. :grinpimp:

Thanks Wes - you rock. Missed you on Wednesday - but I bet class was fun!

Not much to report guys, sorry a little slow.. Ripped the motor& trans out of the breadvan last night.. Took 9 miserable hours, had to sawzall the front out of it and come out the front because of how my shop is setup and lack of pavement outside (you usually pull it out from the side).. The sawzalling was quick and easy but the technique of getting it out was a little tougher. If I had disconnected trans first probably would have gone quicker.. Anyway, I am pysched regardless.. Most updates as they occur!

thanks John...

Anyway, again not much to report.. Been very busy and been out of town seems like about 3 weeks of the last month, just got back from NY for a week which was fun... Anyway, tore down a lot of the engine. Decided probably not going to reubild but I am going to do a compression test to see how strong rings are which are probably fine.. Going to replace turbo with high performance version... And have started tearing down for that. Also cleaning, I am planning on replacing entire gasket set both top and bottom to ensure no leaks which this and all diesels for the most part (not sure what it is about them) are known for.. Anyway, a couple photos...

The engne with exhuast manifold / turbo off and getting ready for degreasing..

This is pretty cool on the Cummins, how the oil cooler works. Inside that hole there is a huge water jacket.. And this thing has the oil run through it.. Couple photos of it here...

PHoto of that water jacket, you can see the outside cyl walls inside of there.. Pretty neat I thought. I am switching with a guy for a vertical mount oil filter which is easier for oil changes...

This is the plate adapter.. I unbolted the GM patterned plate and this is a Dodge to match the NV5600. This is off a '04 Dodge Cummins and they are all interchangable. Common patterns are Ford, GM, Sae#3 which is an industrial pattern, and Dodge, among others...

Then started degreasing like a madman, took a few hours for this side alone. Not sure what I'll paint it. Most of the oil has been coming from the headgasket though again it runs tight...

And that's really it.. I am making up a battle plan here, plan is to drop the body and get body mounts fabbed up shortly. then probably sandbalst the body, then start cutting into it for dash and t hump and other required mods as necessary.. Of course again will keep posting with progress. My goal / ETA is sometime next spring before CM if possible so by that account, and with what I've already done I figure plenty of time.. :)

Man that looks like a tall engine. Have you run into much fitting issues with fitting the body over the frame?

I got my body on a few days ago, and it looks like I am going to have to relocate the fuel tank, cut rear fenders and front fenders....
