Bilstein & Eibach vs. OME 2.5"

Is no one installing OME anymore? I know their shocks (save for the BP-51 setups) are no longer in vogue but overall, it's still a good setup, isn't it?

OME is fine, but FCP for the price is better. They have proven to be very very good for the entry price.

If I can't find a set of TRD or Trail Team take-offs I'd consider mixing and matching OME springs with shocks/struts of a different brand. Still trying to determine what that would be. Given the difference in price between OME and Iron Man, the obvious choice is the FCP's I suppose.

Think i'm gonna have to pull the trigger on the FCP's.

Order is in for the FCP's.

Forgot how much research and head scratching goes into replacing an air suspension setup... Last time I went thought this process, on my previous X5, I got all the bags, etc ripped out and replaced with bilsteins and H&R springs. Then my wife totaled it a week later... That was fun.

Great choice, you'll be happier with those in the long run.

Thanks. Now to sort out the wheels/tires :)

Anxiously awaiting your full report! :bounce:

Will be sure to update. Heading out of town for 2 weeks so will be a little bit before I get it installed.

Got the FCPs installed yesterday, no alignment yet, waiting on my wheels/tires. Ended up having to throw new front calipers, rotors and pads on too. Went with the full akebono setup. Also swung by the dealer today and they ordered up a new dash. Feels nice to make some progress...

Very nice- what wheel/tire combo are you going with? Removing the running boards?

Looks like 295/65-18 duratracs w/ 18x9 bronze method roost rims. Rims are backordered 90 days... Will leave the running boards on until I figure out sliders so that my kids/wife can get in easily.

How's the ride so far?

Ride seems fine so far, little firmer up front which doesn't bother me one bit given how soft it was stock. Perhaps a bit of clunking in the back I need to track down. Haven't put many miles on because I'm waiting for alignment... no regrets from initial shakedown though, not too stiff.

if it feels stiff put some weight in the back i was going to swap out my ironman setup. but after 3 boxes of aquarium salt. smooth. so my next upgrade is going to be some sliders to put on some weight.

That is a beefy tire- should look sweet!

I hear you about the running boards. I was in the same situation but I was lucky enough to find someone local that did not want their OPOR sliders so I ended up not paying for shipping and I got the original design with 3 legs on both sides.

I run Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners, with OME (ARB) 886 spring up front to support my ARB front bumper and a Icon 52700 rear coil spring (2.5 lift all around). Its been a great, simple budget set up for my needs. I primarily do light trail/off road use with my wife and 2 greyhounds and its very capable and comfortable. I can drive the truck 40 miles to my office and its no issue either, I'm happy.

You got 2.5" from the Icon 52700s? Are they not 2" springs? What conversion kit did you use?

Correct, its technically a 2" spring but I got over 2 inches, closer to 2.5.

That's good to know. I currently have 5100's all around with Toytec 112-620's on front and Toytec Superflex up front. I like the ride but they only gave me like 1.6in on the front and I'm having issues getting the front raised to be level (2nd notch causes issues - not enough down travel) so my only other option is spacer.

I may be considering all new if the spacer doesn't work well.
