PSI according to manufac. should be run per what it says in the door jamb. 32 in the rear and 29 up front. Anyone have input to share on the matter? 265/75r16 Mickey Thompson Baja boss. I’ve been experimenting….
Only if they are standard load. If they are LT, there are inflation tables for figuring out the proper load pressures. Usually the min for LT tires is 35psi, but Landcruisers are heavy and often require more....often into the 40s to meet the OEM loading.

Example:

You can see a lot of the knowledge @gaijin has dropped on the subject here: K02 Tire Pressure? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/k02-tire-pressure.976088/

Thanks for the links. Yes they are standard load.

I usually run 34 or so on all 4 tires, no issues on my 265/70/18 Toyo OC AT3s.

10,000 Mile UPDATE:

I've had some time to really get intimate with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires you see pictured on my vehicle in this thread. Initially I considered the road noise unobtrusive, and I still say, that for an aggressive AT tire, the noise is unobtrusive, but there is some kind of sound you are going to hear with having an AT tire installed, and you always will.

To be purely honest, I began to feel sorry I did not opt for Michelin Defenders in 275/70R16, but let me explain how this desire came about, and without saying anything bad about the Mickey Thompson's, and then let me tell you something you will not believe!!

I began to have to make trips to my mother's home in PA due to her being ill, which has required driving 166 miles in each direction to get there, and it was then I truly wished I'd bought Michelin Defenders. The Mickey's were phenomenal in the few torrential down pours I experienced. I felt like I could drive thru a river and never hydroplane with these on. I love the look of the Mickey's, and I still have and love them, but between the totally normal and minimal road noise and 2 to 3 MPG loss, I could not justify them as my daily's anymore. I just wanted some quiet time. I found a set of x4 Nexen Roadian's 275/70R16 brand spankin new on LX470 rims for 300 bucks and I jumped on them. They will pay for themselves in about 4 oil changes.

When I first started shopping for AT tires, I was looking hard at BF Goodrich TA KO2's, but I really wanted the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires. Unfortunately the Mickey's were/are not available in my stock tire size for my 2000 Land Cruiser, which we all know is 275/70R16. So I settled for 265/75R16. If you can actually believe it, I wish I would have purchased the KO2's!!! I only say this because 1. they have them in my stock tire size 275/70R16 and 2. They give me a little more width advantage, and tread advantage, for driving in the sand, which is my new found joy. I have some trips planned to do some beach driving, and I really would like to do it with KO2's on my rig.

When I was buying tires I never considered any of these things. I had no interest in beach driving around that time, and I was more interested in saving a couple bucks. So I live and learn. Like I said, I almost was going to get the TAKO2's but ended up with the Mickey's. So there you have it. I love the Mickey's, but I think I want the TAKO2's now, and would like to give them a try.

295/75r16 everything stock. Near poverty pony hdj101k JDM. I don't notice any performance penalty with the 1hd. KO3s not available in 16" when I got them. Infinitely better in all aspects than the stock size dry rotted dunlops it had.

white letters go on the inside 😉

Nah. I'm not hip. I like making everyone else uncomfortable.
ok I'll forgive it, but the door awnings, or should we just call them Elvis Sideburns, gotta go. hehe

I went in the opposite direction, from the BFG ATs to the Toyo O/Cs, and I love the change. I'm not a BFG hater. On the contrary, I've had maybe 10+ sets on various Land Cruisers over the years and have always been satisfied. That said, I find the Toyo O/Cs to be quieter, easier to balance and yielding a better ride, so much so that I replaced the BFG ATs in my wife's 200 also.

very informative. thank you. I will check them out as they were new. I actually had the Toyo OC's, worn but not worn out, on my truck when I got it. They were road tires though, so naturally they were quiet. They were the H/T's, which you can vote for. I have heard mixed things about the Toyo AT3's which I assumed you were talking about. But if you dig enough, you'll hear something bad about every tire that exists.

Bfg's were cunts to balance.

Yes, sorry, I should have been clearer, they are Toyo Open Country AT3s. I run 275/75R18s on this one.

I'm starting to fall in love with a set of Nexen Roadian tires I am currently running. I paid all of 300 dollars for them on world market, and included were LX470 rims. Tires practically brand new. Makes my Land Cruiser feel like a big car. very quiet and good in the rain.

I am saving my Mickey Thompson's for the day when I have acquired camping land, or the rare event someone wants to trade me for KO3's.

So this happened. I was content with keeping two sets of tires. I was running Nexen Roadian's on a set of stock 16 inch rims I'd just had professionally powder coated. For whatever reason, the bead Popped on the rear driver's tire while I was going down the highway, and I rolled off to the side of the road on the rim and flat for at least a few hundred feet. I found no hole, no puncture, valve stem might or might not be ok... , but I didn't give it much of an investigation, a once over at best, because right then and there I decided to part ways with the Nexen tires and remount the Mickey Thompson's you see here earlier in this thread. I gave away to a tire shop 3 of the Nexen tires with about 90% tire tread, and trashed the flattened one. I found a phenomenal deal on full set of BFG KO2's on pristine 18' rims (Plus 18' Bridgestone spare). I would not have bought these had they not been one of the best deals I ever found, and it was convenient to pay cash and carry, mount them to my truck, and then deal with getting my Nexen tires off my 16 inch rims. Now, here is what I've learned.

I took my regular 166 mile trip up and back to Pennsylvania, plus a few other road trips, while running these wheels. My MPG's were almost the same as I was getting with the Nexen Road tires!! I did a little bit of mixed driving, and with the AC cranked to either low or medium the entire time. I was shocked. I figured with the BFG 275/70R18 (heavy duty E Rated 10 ply & 3 ply sidewalls) setup I was going to suffer with MPG's, but I was wrong. Not only were my MPG's phenomenal, but my ride was just as quiet!

I will need to recalibrate for 4mph on the speedo when I get around to it. I am moving at 75MPH when the speedo reads 71, and after a 300 mile trip my miles are short by approximately 18-20 miles, so it shows 300 miles on the tripmeter when I actually travelled 320. Again, MPG's were amazing. Handling is better, I feel less sway and more responsiveness, I ride higher up, and my rig looks amazing. Let it be noted acceleration suffers a little, but all in all it's a beneficial trade off. I plan to keep my Mickey Thompson's and have them remounted to my powder coated 16's, and keep them as a spare set, or maybe throw them up for sale here and the world market.

I can't see ever taking the 18's off unless I was just going to do some serious off roading, in which case I'd throw on the Mickey's. The 18's are just too nice. If I could only keep one set of tires, I'm going with the BFG KO2's, and that's saying a lot because the Mickey Thompson's are also phenomenal AT tires, but the quieter ride has me sold. I can now see why people love the BFG's. I put almost 500 miles on these BFG's in two days, and I really enjoyed them more than anything I've ever experienced as far as wheels and tires go.

I currently have 4 ko2's and a full ko2 spare that are in very new condition still. I have an opportunity to get another 5 of them for 1100.00 in brand new condition. is it worth buying them to store, or should I just enjoy the KO2's I have, and when it's tire time again, get all brand new KO3's?

All depends on how full you piggy bank is and how often you burn through tires.....Oh, and how 'brand new' the K02s are, are they actually new or buying second hand ( if second hand, check the DOT date code on tire )

If you go through tires alot and you like the K02, stock em up. Otherwise you may have another 5+ years before changing your current tires and maybe money in the bank is better than tires stacked in driveway

Are the KO2s actually new or do they still have a lot of tread depth? KO2s wear well, so they don't lose tread fast, but lose performance over time anyway...
