So second radiator arrived. Purchased from Summit, drop-shipped from CSF. This box is at least new unlike the first one sent which was clearly a repackage. But the packaging is still damaged. Multiple places have the fins bent. Plastic top and bottom look fine and where far better protected by the packaging.

I'm still at a loss for what is okay in a radiator and any help is appreciated. Return this one and purchase another from somewhere local? This is okay and some bent fins are normal? Help please.

Who is the shipping company? They don't seem to give 2 flips about caring for their packages.

Both times came UPS

Both times came UPS

Sounds about right. I try and use USPS and FedEX if at all possible. UPS delivered a very rare Colnago steel bike frame a few years ago. The box had bright labels all over it stating it's fragility and to handle with care and had numerous "this side up" stickers. None of that mattered to UPS. Despite being packed VERY well, UPS did all they could to destroy the frame. Looked like they had thrown off the upper rack in their warehouse, run it over with a forklift and then drug it behind the truck all the way to my house. The frame was damaged beyond repair. I got fully compensated, but, that was an exceptionally rare handmade frame with custom paint by Ernesto Colnago himself. To say I was pissed was an understatement. UPS subsequently delivered a few other packages throughout the years with similar "care" for the contents. I won't use them at all if at all possible. As for the radiator, it would probably be fine. But, I'd file a claim anyway and get a replacement. Sooner or later UPS will learn their lesson....or not :(

Bent fins are no big deal. Bend them back. I don't know if I'd blame the shipping company. That's like a 30" span of cardboard with no reinforcement. Due to the proportions, that box will likely lay flat along the trip somewhere. The vendor should've double boxed.

A couple of dimes more in packaging...

It their way of revenge for having to use those ugly brown shorts.

I installed my CSF on Saturday, I was really scared after seeing the packaging (or what was left of it)
Installation was very easy, perfect fit. If I have to do it again I can probably tackle it in 1 hour.
So far so good, no leaks. Still some air in the circuit that is slowly burping out.

It's soooo nice to see the temp stay at 188. It might climb up to 190 or 192 going uphill and quickly coming back to 188.

What temps were you seeing prior to the CSF rad being installed? What else, if anything, did you change when you changed the radiator?

I've been having some high temps issues for quite some time. My truck was running at around 205.
Only replaced radiator and the coolant (not all of it, just what it came out during rad replacement. About 2 gallons)

I had replaced the rad cap and thermostat about a year and a half ago.

Wow. That is an impressive drop in temps by just swapping the radiator.

Could you determine the passages in the old radiator were blocked and to what extent?

not really, I don't have the means to do it.
I thought it would be nasty in terms of bugs and grime between the fins, but wasn't really that bad. I guess it just deteriorated.
When I bought the truck 4 years ago, it had that cheap yellow coolant (I replaced it a few months after buying it with Valvoline Zerex), I wonder if that had anything to do with the lost of cooling properties. Maybe depositing/creating residue on the internal walls causing slow flow. I guess I'd never know. But I don't care now, I'm enjoying the 188...

If you still have the old one...you could pull it apart...and take pictures?

What obd2 dongle are you using to monitor engine performance?
I bought it online a few yeras ago, it was around $10. If I can find my order I'll send you a link.

Edit: found it. It's more expensive now, I paid $8.95

I bought a spectra radiator on Amazon and it arrived with a box side fully open. The styrofoam is in good shape so it appears the radiator didn’t fall out of the box.

However after pulling it out and inspecting, the fins look beat up in several spots. I’ve never bought a radiator before. Is this amount of bending normal for a new unit? Thanks in advance.

To me, no amount of damage is acceptable when buying new in the box items. You will however likely fold a few fins during install. Those dont look problematic but no need to accept that, unless they discount the product enough to offset your level of dissatisfaction.

Fwiw- you can order the Spectra directly through PepBoys, at nearly same price as amazoom, get free shipping to a nearby store and go pick it up - which allows you to inspect on the spot for damage( if you have a PB near you). Also comes with limited lifetime warranty when you buy through PB.

Anyone know if Summit Racings lead time is correct? I was looking at the CSF, but it says it won't ship until 5/25. I work in the next town over, so I wonder if they have one in stock if I could will call it?
I ordered from Summit and the the CSF was a drop ship both times. I say both times because of the poor packaging that was easily damaged in transit.
