They're always the cheapest online for me, but shipping to the west coast might be different. If I'm looking at the right part, they have the rack for $479 and 3 different seal kits from $27-$155.

WORLDPAC sells remanufactured MAVAL complete rack for $312 . But you need to have an account with them.
Hope that helps.

When I was searching for a rack at the first of the year www.toyotaonlineparts.com had the best shipped price I could find. This was for a new Toyota rack. At that time I wasn't familiar with @beno but nowadays I would certainly send him a message to see what kind of shipped price he can do.

just bought one, and could not find a better, AND cheaper alternative to the OEM parts.
My mechanic said just get the toyota unit.

I paid about $2000 installed at my local Lexus dealer. Feels great, 1 year guaranteed on parts and labor, free loaner and no hassle. Mines a 2005 and had a leak, first used stop leak but since I'm in a long term relationship with this beast I want him always in top condition. Also want the best working on systems that can kill you if they fail!

I purchased an AAE from rock auto $214 about a year and no issues. I dont do heavy off roading; no rock crawling or heavy mudding.

I ended up replacing racks in both my 2000 and 2004 this year. The 2000 had been seeping/leaking pretty much since I got it in '09. Finally got to be a decent drip on the driveway, and then suffered a catastrophic seal failure which puked all the fluid in my driveway on startup this fall. It was that experience - the total loss of steering assist - that prompted me to replace my '04's rack after only a few months of leaking. I tried some stop-leak, but it didn't help. Both boots were full of fluid, and it was leaking out the input shaft as well. With 3 large road trips coming up, I didn't see any reason to risk it. Both cruisers tow occasionally, and both see off-road. I have never rebuilt a rack, so I wasn't going to attempt it now, not with so much potential for failure if done wrong. I get that they're just a relatively simple hydraulic system, but I have no experience rebuilding them, and one lasted 245K, and one 210K. You still have to uninstall the whole shebang to rebuild, so while you save in parts, you spend extra time and/or shop time on rebuild. If you've got the skills and confidence, go for it. Sometimes you can milk a leaking rack for YEARS without issue. As I found out, someday ya gotta pay the piper, and with pretty dramatic results. Even getting that thing loaded on a trailer with zero power assist was tough. Would hate to have been going 80 mph down the freeway when it let loose. YMMV...

I ordered one last week from Napa. I think it was 300. It's a rebuild OEM and it comes with the inner rods. Just got the rack out last night. Got a 2000 w 170k so will be doing the rack bushings, bearings, outer rods, lower ball joints and all new gaskets and seals. The gaskets and oil seals I ordered from Toyota OEM Parts | EB TOYOTA PARTS | toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com since they had the best prices that I could fine without spending a lot of time looking into it.

I still have my OEM rack. How difficult is the rebuild? I may attempt it since i already have one installed.

Remember that you will have to ship your core back when you buy online, and there might be requirements for timing of that. I bought a Cardone reman from Partsgeek for a good price. But it cost me $50 to ship the core back (FL to NY), and they gave me a hassle because I had to delay the install and did not send the core back in their 30-day allowed window. AND they lost the core on their loading dock. I did send it tracked, though, so they are giving me the credit. Should be getting my core credit this week, hopefully. If I'd know what a pain it would be, I would have bought local for a few dollars more.
