if there was only one mod, and only $100

my vote would be a used hand held 5 watt radio because no matter what happens, you can head up a hill and call for help

wisdom over balls I guess

add $200 and I'll change my opinion to a Sat phone with a $20 a month emergency plan

Any idea where to find a sat phone for $300?

I was looking into doing this. Mr T apparently discontinued these parts.

60/62 Series Hood Prop Rod - Less than $20!

My new favorite cheap mod...less than $20 from you local dealer.

After having my hood try it's best imitation of a Guillotine on a regular basis, I found the following info regarding the FJ60/62 hood prop, which fits our rigs exactly. Installs in 2 minutes without any tools, and works like a charm. No need to go to the local junk yard, as they are readily available and cheap from Mr. T. Certainly much cheaper and easier than fitting new OEM or aftermarket struts.

Here are the part numbers.

53451‑90A00 ROD, HOOD SUPPORT FJ62
90480‑15002 GROMMET (FOR HOOD SUPPORT ROD) FJ62
53452‑90351 HOLDER, HOOD STAY FJ62

Steve

I did this last year using 53441-89105 support, hood ; 53452-90351 holder, stay; 90480-15002 grommet. Those parts were still available.

I had to bend the rod to shape but it works fine.

Back in March, Cruiserparts.com had a used rod kit with new grommet and holder included for $24. Seems they've upped the price by $10 since: 1 x Hood Prop Rod 91-97 80 series 53451-60010, Hood Prop Rod 91-97 80 series Conversion Kit Manual Upgrade [53451-60010] - $49.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

There’s also this option from hudd for a little more. Id have gone this route if I’d known about it at the time.

My best sub 100$ mod would be to adjust idle to 850rpm with hand throttle (HDJ80 m/t). Much better driveability by hitting correct rpm shifting up and down, better power pick up after shifts and after take from standstill. But I guess most forum members have to calculate in hand throttle. And a 1HD-T w m/t, off course...

Or just master "heel toe shifting" for $0.

A nice partner mod is a metal ring for the left side hold down bolt hole. $5 at Walmart for a kit and a dozen or so rings. Keeps the hold down bolt from tearing through the battery box.
Picture or Description of Ring?

Went through and made a spreadsheet of everybody's suggestions in this thread, have a look:

it just has the first person who called out a mod listed as the submitter. I'm sure I missed some and misspelled some.

I was reading through the thread and was banging my head against the wall trying to sift through everything. The engineer in me had to make it a little easier to read through in order to just extract the necessary data. Anybody who clicks on that link can edit the spreadsheet, so please don't delete everything. Just add stuff I may have missed, or don't, whatever floats your boat.

Most of these didn't have costs, I tried linking to pics of installs and products, and include costs when I could.

@woody, this google sheet seems to be auto formatting to an embedded type deal that you can't click on and edit, any way to make it not do that and just be a link to the google sheet page?

Just got to get it so it’s just a link instead of the embedded thing so people can edit it and add new stuff

added in a [ url ] filename.gsheet [ /url ] link for editing.

Have verified editability even without being signed in to google. just click the link above that embedded sheet and you can add stuff!
