If you want a strong but good cup of coffee try the Italian "Moka Express".

The mechanism is simple: The aluminum pot utilizes pressure to force steam to build up inside the lower section, forcing the surrounding boiling water up the funnel through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber.

The end result: elevated heart rate.

For a few years we have been cold brewing concentrate with a toddycafe.com

We use it for all of our coffee use and its perfect for camping.

NUGE Java and a percolator pot...

For coffee, Jetboil also makes a Coffee Press for their system. Minimal extra weight and stuff to carry.

Coffee Press | Jetboil

X2 ...By far the fastest coffee available. All self contained, drink it out of the pot in less then 3minutes start to finish:D

I like Illy ... Italian....

+1 on Illy!

Here in Aus we have an awesome instant coffee which is the closest I have ever had to having an instant espresso out bush while hiking. It's called Nescafe Short Black and it is really, really good if you're a coffee snob like me.

There's also a very cool product which allows me to enjoy Illy out in the scrub as well. It's a coffee mug with a built in plunger called "Smart Cafe".

Just make sure you don't hand in your "Man Card" by buying a red one like in the picture - the gunmetal grey one is the go. :D But then again, real men don't use mugs, they drink their coffee out of a muddy footprint on the trail. Just like a coffee plunger, these Smart Cafe things are great for tea leaves or voodoo herbal infusions.

Wow, I haven't checked in on this thread in a while...guess I stirred the passion of the caffiene-addicted masses :). Great advice/info. I just bought some of Starbucks new instant coffee (can't remember the name?). Gonna try that out when I go camping in the next month or so. Although, the picture on the Nestle shortblack does look tasty!!!???

Try cold brewing, i like it cause its easy and dosent have any bitter taste.

Step 1: select appropriate shatter resistant container.
This one would work fine, but is a little bulky for trail trips.
Step 2: http://www.juliancaldecott.com/Site...Images/Image/Mangrove by Becker resized 1.jpgFill with water. No need to heat, just find some potable water source.
Step 3: Add ground coffee.
Step 4: Wait a day.
Step 5: filter.
Step 6: Enjoy.

Seriously though, give it a try you might really like the taste. I always have a container going so the next day i'll have tasty coffee just waiting for me. Also the longer you let it sit around the more punch you get.

Planetary Design french press. Insulated Coffee Press By Planetary Design - DoubleShot, Boot Cut, Desk Press, Table Top and Airscape

I have had one for about 15 years, it was Porter Products back then and made in USA. It has fallen off of vehicles, rolled down the highway and still works flawlessly.

I use fresh ground fare trade coffee from our local owned coffee shop, Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe | Building Community, One Gathering at a Time | Frankfort, KY . Great coffee, I prefer it pretty stout.

For a real strong cup of sipping expresso my brother prefers an Ibrik with some Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee pots, ibrik, cezve

can't believe this never made it on this list. i got one of these for camping, and now i use it at home. threw away my drip maker.

it can even be found as a kit with a hand cranked grinder. and if you want to get really crazy, you can chuck the grinder spindle into a cordless drill....

ThinkGeek :: Aeropress Coffee Maker

I used an Aeropress while solo motorcycle camping last summer. One batch is 16 ounces, just right for me, and cleanup is super easy. It took a few trials to get it right but once I figured it out I am making great coffee with it. Everything fits inside my aluminum camping water kettle.

Pretty much this method:

I use a Zassenhaus turkish hand cranked mill.

Who sells the kit / grinder you're talking about?

AS I read through the previous postings I never did see Starbucks Via mentioned...now it is not the best, but for those travelling light and/or backpacking this is a great option. We used it this last summer while camping in Roosevelt National Forest in the Poudre Canyon.

And as mention numerous times, the French press makes a good cup of coffee and is pretty handy on the trail.

You can't go wrong with the lexan french press and some French Roast coffee. When I am backpacking or am more lazy camping, I have gone to the Starbucks VIA instant coffee which is a snap to make to get that kick we all like in the morning!

have you tried the starbucks VIA? after trying that, thats what i will pack for camping trips. it mixes in hot or cold water, nad they have quite a few varieties now.

I used their ice coffee last summer, while backpacking and have to say that it was easy and very good for a quick morning wake up!

My backpacking buddy used both the Starburt's brand instant and Nestle istant crystals, and said the Nestle tastes much better than Starbucks. According to him the even Taster's Choice cardboard instant crystals are better than the Starbucks.

Aint nothing like a shot of wiskey in the evening and fresh coffee in the morning.

agreed... mostly.

I don't touch coffee, but there's nothng wrong with ending your day in camp with some good whiskey. Shoot, unless there's driving to be done while camping, I'll start the day with whiskey too.
Hash browns, biscuits in the DO, bangers off the grill, eggs over-easy, hot tea, and a little Talisker - my favoite breakfast.

well, i got it a few years ago, and i thought it was from think geek.

this is the grinder which is all but discontinued which is too bad because it was half the cost of a hario and just as good.

https://morebeer.com/view_product/6791

i bought two kits for $50 each including aeropress and grinder. but i guess that deal is gone. so now its time to get a hario skerton.
