Taster's Choice cardboard instant crystals are better than the Starbucks.

I'm not a fan of Starbuck's, but their instant is not bad, very easy to make and super compact. I find the Italian Roast better than anything they sell in the store for under $2.

Starbucks Via. Combined with a Jet Boil, it makes getting to the lake trout in the AM manageable.

They make them in flavors now, so it's GF approved as well.

If you are really camping, there isn't any lectricity around.
Med grind is needed in the perculator, but if you don't have that, just throw 2 Tablespoons/cup into the water & boil for 5 minutes.
Throw in a little snow to drop the grinds down to the bottom.

I say folgers instant coffee....sorry I am a simpleton

i say, that if you cannot enjoy folgers instant while camping, diner coffee while on the road, and really hard to find artisan third wave stuff when in eclectic urban environments, it just shows a lack of diversity.

:D

seriously, coffee is location dependent. in fact, i am now going to add folgers to my back up plan for camping coffee. because i would rather have a hot cup of instant than no cup of anything.

I'd rather drink hot water than Folgers instant.

well, if you like only the best....

this is what my brother does. he is the roaster for this place in tempe az. they only do single origin stuff. and only from small farms where they actually fly out and meet with the growers personally. so if you treat coffee like its a wine, then this is really good stuff. and normally priced. and of course small batch roasted by my own brother.

Via is damn good stuff. And agreed, I can't drink their store brew.

I've seen that store's web site before. Very cool! I will definitely make a point to visit there if I'm ever in that area.

Life is too short to drink bad coffee. I made the decision long ago that it's worth the work to make my own good coffee. I roast it myself.

look if you are at home go ahead and make "wine" but when camping i just like to keep it simple. i keep a stack of styro cups with lids. small bottle of folgers, powder cream and some sugar.

now if you guys are going to bitch about it then the best I can do is bring the french press. you can supply the gounds....i bet your going to want me to put powder sugar on your french toast....and how about the maple syrup? i bet you have a preferance between canadian and vermont syrup too.......let me guess you are going to look for an outlet to plug in your hair dryer aren't you????

As long as you bring the "Flavor Crystals" we're home :D. I'll take care of the real syrup, home-made bacon (who needs canuck bacon ;)) and maybe even poached eggs ;p...and I'll throw in a 'luxe made from scratch cappuccino too: I dare ya not to like any of it. :flipoff2:

And if you have enough hair to need a hair dryer I can probably take care of you on that too .

We gotch'yur back!

My wife and I drink a half and half blend of International Cafe Orange and (Inseart any brand) Hot Coca. Yum, especially on a cool Colorado morning. Add a little shooter of Bailey's and it's perfect.

I second the baileys and miss camping in CO.

pressoman....this changes everything....see the thread askedt for personal preferrance....now that you are planning to whip up all the fixings .....then by all means top shelf it is!!!

Earl Grey Tea, brewed 'till it stains the cup. No sugar, milk, honey, lemon, just black. I have about 6 a day.

I'm reasonable sure he can back all that up.

OT, that best camp coffee is what you like. There are a few "comfort" foods that I like when camping. Not exactly gourmet stuff but things I have always had when camping.
  • Percolated coffee in the pot I've been using since the 70's, Chock full o nuts or one of the major brands is fine.
  • Fried Spam (gasp!) if you have never tried this don't knock it. <Crispy spam drool.>
  • Canned hash
  • Dinty Moore Beef Stew
  • Bisquick Pancakes
Eating these foods brings back memories of past trips. And it all taste pretty darned good IMHO.

That said if spresso shows up with buckwheat pancakes, bacon, and a fresh latte I won't turn them down.

I was just thinking about this. For me, I really like oatmeal; one of those things I had regular for breakfast as a kid before school, at my grandmother's and grandparent's houses, before going fishing and hunting, during backpacking trips and camped out at the coast.

Oh, and SPAM sliced, and fried crisp in a big ol' cast-iron skillet is amazing.:bounce:
