Had a lot of nice weather down here in the winter. Will suck to work on your car in the summer. See ya down here soon.

What did you use???/

Rust bullet?

It is called Chassis Saver. Everything I read gave it better reviews. Very little prep compared to POR-15 and a lot of guys up north with big fleets use it on their trucks and they say the POR-15 just flakes off and this stuff is tough as nails. Again those are claims but I will see for myself soon.

I just brushed it on.

Off to work.

Not much to really show though it was a lot of work. Just a lot of sandblasting and got all of that old industrial strength paint out of the vents and windsheild area. The entire body is now ready for the primer surfacer. Also did 90% prep on the doors, fenders, and hood. Then did a lot of sandblasting on the wheels.

Here is a few pics from the day. Second is working into the night and the dust in the air from blowing out the bay. Body work is so darn time consuming. Should have some good pics with lots of grey parts today. The U-POL is on the FEDEX truck today and going to pick up the paint now so we should get that done tomorrow.

Well we couldn't get the paint to tint the U-POL as the shop we were working with couldn't match the color as their main paint guy was out (thanks for telling me you could and then not deliver). So I went by the other shop that could do it for me and they were closed. So the U-POL will go on Wednesday morning.

But in the last couple of days we did a lot more body work. We put all of the primer/sandable. Did one coat yesterday and then blocked it all today and got it looking really good. Then we put on another coat and it is currently drying and I will sand it off next weekend as the holidays are going to consume most of the time.

I tried fixing the siezed brake and was going to tear it apart but I could not get the drum off of the wheel. I'll be looking for help in the tech section on that. The adjusting wheels in the back were stuck and I could not losen the tension on the breaks. I must have been missing something.

Well here are the pics. They'll have to hold you until we get some real progress on Wednesday Morning. This is going to be a really clean truck though. Better than the factory in MOST areas. Some others leave something to be desired but this is not a $100K car.

make sure the shoes are adjusted back and beat on them with a hammer. No really. I think there's supposed to be a bolt that holds the drums on, most of the time it's missing, but make sure. If it's gone, then just beat on the suckers until they come off. They will slowly work themselves off. I'm pretty sure there's not a threaded hole that would allow you to use a bolt to press the drums off, so that's all you're left with.

If you break one they're easy to find, so just go for it.

Man, your progress is making me jealous!

You guys are painting with that gun?!?!? I used to paint with siphon feed guns like that, but then I got a nice HVLP gravity feed gun. It is a night and day difference man. But it looks like you're getting good results there, so I wouldn't change it, just an observation.

x2 what subzali said about the brakes. Don't sweat it if you destroy it--you want discs anyway. ;)

That is just a primer gun. I bought it at lowes for $45 bucks and it came with 2 (1) Quart cans a bunch of fittins and a really small air brush gun for custom small stuff with a couple small cans as well. But yeah. The shop has a booth and a really nice gun to spray the car with. They said they spent about $600 buck on it some (crazy name) gun. I'm sure it is good but I've only painted 2 cars in the past 7 years so I'm sure the gun is way beyond my skill level. In the end it is a land cruiser and to do something so nice you don't want to wheel it will be a shame.

Wednesday we will get the U-POL on and then nothing for about a week because of the holidays. What a shame.

Thanks guys. Hope I can get it running and driving by New Years...One hell of a goal.

Discs aren't comming.....WAY over budget already and I have barely started puting it together.

I was going to wait to paint mine when I got down to florida but you have inspired me to tear mine apart and get started on the paint job.

well see what the wife has to say about this one.
 great job

Did you ever find a resistor replacement? I have the twin brother of yours under my hood! Needs replacing.
Thanks

There is a thread in the 40 tech section that goes thru it and gives a part number. If you type in heater resistor I believe it is one of the first few things that comes up. It gives you a part number and specifications for it. It is not an exact replacement as it is a little longer but it shoudl work great.

I went and mixed my 6H9 today and it looks just like I thought it would. I can't wait to get it on.

Well,

They were closed on Monday and Tuesday as usual and now are closed on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Sure getting to be a pain in the ass using this Garage. Ohh well.

Here are a couple of Iphone pics from my dads cell as I forgot the memory card for my camera today. It looks a lot lighter in person. I have used quite a few products from roll-ons like Duplicolor (should be Illegal to sell it sucks so much), Hurculiner (excellent product for roll on but very rought and suseptiple to UV rays after a long time), Scorpion, Line-X, and now my favorite spray your self is this U-POL. Very easy to use, great gun for the 13 bucks that it cost's, and you can easily tint it or adjust the roughness based on air pressure and how close you spray to the surface.

I had wished the color had been a tad bit lighter but I think in the sun the color will be great. Back to work on Saturday.

Well I had missed a couple of very small spots but am very impressed so far. Also my last mix I think I mixed my color incorrectly (a little short) and it is a tad bit lighter than the rest) Ohh well.

Finished most of my sanding yesterday and am comming back to go over it all one more time with a set of fresh eyes and some 320 grit.

If I finish today I will probably go to paint on Wednesday or Thursday. It all depends but I will probably bring my hard top parts home this Monday and Tuesday while they are closed and get them fixed (rust on the corners and going to be very trick to fix) that way I can spray it all at once instead of comming back later to spray the hard top parts since they are the same color.

No real pics....it all looks the same. Hope to get to cleaning up and getting the clutch fixed and engine back in starting Friday or Saturday. SOOOO MUCH TO DO and SO LITTLE TIME!!!!

Not sure if got the brake drums off, but if not, what worked for me was to unbolt the brake cylinders from the rear and then use a piece of wood to knock them loose from the rear. Only took a small hit from a hammer and they came right off.

Did you get my messages about the brakes??

Yep got them and replied I thought. Not in the budget/timeframe

I thought about that and like your idea. Think that is going to happen here sooner than later. I want to finish the body work but I can't focus on anything longer than a few seconds so the fact that I just did a few weeks of body work is amazing in its own. But I need to rebuild the brakes and probably knock out the front end rebuild at the same time (need to buy my tie-rod ends...how did I forget those????).
