Have you used oem seal? If you have used non-oem seal than it may not be necessarily backwards. Maybe the seal has a recessed face profile.
This is no different to any oil seal, there is only one way to install, and that is the open side inwards and the closed outwards. The cutaway of the seal is like a squared U shape. The bottom of the U should be outwards. I cant even immagine if it's possible to insert the other way as it wouldn't taper in its place. I think you have done it ok, its just a different make seal with a different profile look.

I didnt use the OEM seal but got a high quality Fuji brand rebuild kit from @cruiseroutfit - one side of the seal looks just like yours and the other side has that U channel you mentioned. I have it installed the opposite way you did and it fits. Maybe Kurt can chime in on the orientation. Thanks!

Ok, so the U shape should go inwards and the flat face out.

It will be paint stripped and primed, not quite as when I started this conversation at the beginning this blog..the body on this photo today is at Direct Blast. Spoken with Clint the boss (very nice guy) and btw he really loves my old lady.. its kind of a refreshment among mining equippement and monster dump trucks.

Bare stripped.. its amazing how this body got preserved after more than 35 years. Ok, there's going to be a few welds here and there but there are a number of panels that it needs no welding at all. These are the front doors, bonnet/hood, sills, wheel arches and windscreen. The only areas weld work will be necessary are on the rear tub, under the windscreen on left hand side and LH ambulance door. Few pitting spots need braised or filled .. hasn't decided yet but overall weld repair maybe 2-3 patches, well 4 at most.
The blasting cleaned out all the original tarblanket insulation under the foot floor and the firewall. Any idea what to replace those areas? I want to keep the troopy a hose out vehicle so I wouldn't consider any water soaking material. Also I dont mind the engine noise so I would only put back insulation on areas originally were. I wouldn't wrap the whole cabin as you can see many others do. Your input is valued here,?thanks!

Can you take some measurements for me?
I would like to know the width of the door openings (measuere at lock height), the rear opening and the width of the tub inside the top rail and between the wheel wells just behind the B pillar.
I figure these measurements will be similar to a 40.

Asap, soon

I've been watching closely the front door opening after I mounted the tub on the rotisserie thus remained constant. These need an immense force to crush the tub, and it wont just happen by mounting it under its own weight.

Well maybe if there is structural corrosion then yes but this one was tough like an old tin paint :)
Mine did some tumbeling down a hill, that will disturb the measurements.

Big thanks to Brunswick Diesels and especially to Brad making this 100% oem clone oversize radiator, btw discontinued by Toyota. Total cost is $555 including the brand new copper oem pattern top tank, which I opted for. It could've ordered without it for $80 less, however I wanted the new look at top view. Mysteriously the cost reminds me to Toyota supplier 555 Japanese parts.
Also, Brad made it with the small water inlet to keep the radiator totally authentic and historically correct.
Highly recommended!

Welcome to WA. Our famous cobwebless Huntsman Spider kept me company today. I have spotted several times previously. Today he or she was excited watching my movement around the parts .. then suddenly disappeared.
