Ok, who's Mogas? A Toyota mechanic in Flagstaff?

I got a report from MoGas on the engine:

Valves are bent. Head went to the engine shop yesterday.
Timing chain guard is chewed up. Will be ordering replacement from DOA.
Broken timing chain may not have been OEM, not sure. Toyota timing set being ordered.
Missing all engine mount bolts on the driver side. Will replace.
Toyota head gasket set being ordered.

Missing engine mount bolts??? You'd think that would cause some vibration / clunking issues.

Thanks for the update Ali. I think you mean timing chain guides.

The adventure continues. Mike leaves LA Bay tomorrow for home. David and I continue on. Hopefully engine will be repaired when we return though Flagstaff next week.

My trip is being cut short. Jon & David are down here another week.

Adventure so far.

Day one. 4Runner breaks chain 30 miles from Flagstaff. Mike and I wait for tow. David drives into Flagstaff, and calls Josh to post up on MUD. Truck towed into Flagstaff in raging snow storm. Short story, leak down showed a bent valve on #4 intake. Truck abandoned.

Day two. Leave Flagstaff still snowing. Cross border around 2:00. Blast down to San Felipe. Town is a parking lot due to the race. Leave town at dusk and camp in a wash about 30 miles south.

Day three. Meet up with Luis in a diesel converted 80. Drive to San Ignacio. Make reservation for whale watching the next morning. Eat dinner on the plaza. Camp in an RV park in a date oasis on the lagoon.

Day four. Whale watching. Camp at the eco-tour camp. Winds all night long.

Day five. Leave for the Gulf. Camp at San Rafael on the beach. Meet Ken and Eric from CA. Eric gets stung by a stingray while fishing.

Day six. Camp at San Rafael a second night. Perfect days.

Day seven. Drive to Bahia de los Angeles with a detour to Bahia los Animas. Check into Villa Bahia Hotel. Get a room upgrade.

Given all this adventure, the timing chain could not have shat itself in a better place. I hope David's old bus is holding up.

Who in gods name is Chamba?

Leave it to a lawyer to get an exception to Woody's precious rule of no username changes

I am safely and sadly North of the border. Quite an experience getting lost in Mexicali but otherwise, no drama getting to Phoenix for the night. I looked along the path we took South of San Felipe but no tripod turned up.

Coco was at the race in San Felipe when we came down last week. He was back at Coco's corner yesterday when i was coming back up from BoLA so we had a nice visit. He has a lot of interesting stories... :-)

Happy Birthday Jon-boy.

Checked on Jon's truck when passing through Flagstaff back on the 16th. Dave was waiting on a part from Toyota and was on schedule for having the engine back together by the time Jon and Dave come back through later this week. Head was back from machine shop with a new #4 intake valve.

When I was walking back to my truck we noticed some fluid underneath. Front diff was empty but still dripping. Put 2-1/2 quarts of 80-90wt in it, tested for no horrible noises, and headed back to Albuquerque. I think the front pinion seal has failed and is slinging gear oil when driving. Checked level every 100 miles on the drive back but didn't need to add any (pinky still picked up some on the last check). It doesn't leak sitting in the drive.

I'm glad to hear. Good thing we noticed that.

Good catch Mike. Your 12mm nuts may be loose :D

I just got a call from Jon. They are back on US soil and we should be meeting up around 7 tonight. The 4Skinner is all back together, I drove it to work today and I'm going to put a few highway miles on it right now.

Just the loose nut behind the wheel.

He has plenty of rustproofing under the thing, though.

Now THAT'S my kind of vacation. Drop off truck, go on a trip, pick up on the way home :D

There she sits, waiting for Pappy. I put about 60 miles of mixed highway and city. I think she's good to go.

OK gents. We are set up in the local Motel 6 in Flagstaff for the night. We will depart for ABQ in the morning after NAPA opens.

Lots of good adventures.

Pappy is home. David should be shortly after a stop at AmToy. Pics and video coming up.

In the mean time ... notice that some of the figures have boobies. :grinpimp:
