I have a leaking PS pump that needs rebuild that I got from Keith. You can rebuild it and give me your core.

PS is for wimps. Before I met you guys I'd take my 1970 FJ40 from the CA Bay Area to Saline Valley, through Death Valley and back - 1200 miles in 5 days with "armstrong" steering and single curcuit drum brakes. We've all gotten soft...

And that's much harder than 2 weeks of slow speed aired down driving in soft sand. Yep, we're pusses.:flipoff2:

OK, its yours. The one on my truck is also leaking. I was planning to rebuild one and have it ready to swap in. Our trucks are at the age and mileage where O-rings and seals and gaskets are wearing out.

My PS pump was puking on the 2FE. I bought a kit from Dan. Still puked under load. Ended up getting a new one and haven't looked back.
 
A little update. So far we are looking at Mike, David, and me. The latest discussion is to drive further south than normal to San Ignacio to do some whale watching. Trip is still open for those looking for a real adventure.

Counting hours now. We are scheduled to leave Friday. If we are lucky we will catch some trophy truck action in San Felipe.

FYI- I was in San Ignacio for whale watching last year. Incredible trip. When we went through Guerrero Negro on Mex 1 we hd to stop and get tourist visas for Baja Sur. Much more expensive there than at the border. Interestingly there are vendors of fruit and veggies and stuff right before the state line. Don't buy anything 'cus they take it away at an inspection station right there.

There is a way around the state border at Guererro Negro if you want it. Or at least there was then.

Yep, come down through El Arco from BOLA.
 
Just before G.N. there is a sign for the local airport, shaped like an airplane. Turn right there. Follow that road until you can turn left onto the main road that runs though town. It will take you to Mex 1 just below the state border. At least it used to be that way unless that local cops have figured it out.

4Runner broke the timing chain on the approach to Flagstaff. Its been abandoned in the capable hands on Mogas. The three of us are continuing on in the two 80s.

that sucks! you barely got off the ground! glad the adventure is still on. having 2 extra vehicles sure came in handy. have fun on the balance of the trip!
 
Wow, that's too bad. Another part of the adventure will be getting the Runner back to NM, or fixing it in Arizona.

Have fun in the meantime, and enjoy the luxury life in the 80's!
 
I got a report from MoGas on the engine:

Valves are bent. Head went to the engine shop yesterday.
Timing chain guard is chewed up. Will be ordering replacement from DOA.
Broken timing chain may not have been OEM, not sure. Toyota timing set being ordered.
Missing all engine mount bolts on the driver side. Will replace.
Toyota head gasket set being ordered.
