Also, I guess I'd go further south and go through SLC and the Price and down towards Moab and across 70 instead. I'd try to stay off the interstate as much as possible. I80 is a horrible boring long windy trek.

Thanks @ginericLC :beer::beer:He said he’s taken it on a lot of long trips with old motor. I wonder if the shifting was from moving from the tree to the floor? Some linkage tight?

I figure they all have some rust, but if it’s worth doing a motor swap and new suspension, it can’t be “that” bad? I’d be scared to drive a museum piece and couldn’t afford a super clean one anyway :)

We’re researching routes as we speak. I don’t have a real agenda besides making it home under own power. If y’all have some scenic routes to get me from ID to MS/Arkansas area, I’m all ears!

Lifelong40fan has more of the route I was thinking. I'd go even more scenic and look at temps. Stay in the cooler regions as long as you can and try to drive the warmer sections in the morning. I think you time schedule is a bit off though. If you could travel 60mph which might be a stretch in this case and you are stopping for fuel and food. You are really probably only averaging 45-50mph overall. I think 700 miles a day is a stretch. Definitely hit the LC Museum. From Jim's to there is about 350 miles. So leave early in the morning and get there in the afternoon. Spend a couple hours there and head south. I'd go to at least Spanish Fork, UT that way you aren't battling any traffic in the morning.

It has plenty of rust. They all do. It was repainted at one time so it looks pretty good from a distance. I think the shifter problem is in the rubber donut that the shifter goes into the top plate. It shifts fine and doesn't grind but it is hard to shift. There is resistance in the shifter. And I did drive another 3 speed floor mounted Cruiser within the last few months and it was definitely tougher to shift. I don't think it is anything that will break though. I wouldn't throw any logic into what people do with investing time and money into Land Cruisers.

Like this?

Of course it’s longer than the interstate, but I won’t be running 75mph on any road

That looks more scenic. And that way if your break down somewhere and have to spend a day making repairs at least you have scenery to look at. It is going to be an adventure that is for sure.

One scenic (and cooler temps) mod to the above route. From Moab, take the River Road back to I-70, then to Grand Junction (our place if you need it), Montrose, Ouray, Silverton and on to Durango via the Million Dollar Highway. Pretty spectacular two lane you shouldn't miss. From Durango you can follow the mapped route. Hot springs at Ouray and Pagosa Springs if you want to freshen up.

Stop in Green River, between Price and Moab, at Ray's Tavern for one of the best burgers in the West. They'd turned off the grill three minutes before we got there Sunday night en route home from the Pig Party. Bummer!

Figure out parts you might need at JMack's and order from Cruiser Outfitters in SLC. Pick 'em up on the way. One of the best sources of quality LC parts around. Worth your time to have Kurt Williams give it a walk around.

Definitely worth going through Montrose and Silverton! There’s also going over Monarch pass and then hitting Salida, CO. And I hear there’s a few Land Cruisers in Salida!:)

Any of the routes from Price, UT to Springer, NM will be beautiful!

47 Pigs in the yard at Classic Cruisers in Poncha Springs, near Salida, when I was there a few weeks ago. Can you say parts? Nice people too.

This sounds epic!

My boy and I just got back from the Pig Party in our 3FE equipped 55. Knocked out 15 MPG pretty reliably, one tank was 18.
We did bring ear plugs.

If you pass through Fort Collins, CO, let me know - happy to help.

Enjoy the trip!

How fast did you cruise with the 3FE? 62ish?
He said he gets avg 12mpg running around town in it.

Smiles per gallon right?

The internet says it’s a 23ish gallon tank. I think that should get us between fuel stops ok.
