Well sort of. I won't be driving it for a bit. I picked up a 79 FJ40 today in Birmingham, Al and I saw two nice 40's there. One yellow and a blue one. Both drivers were waving at me. Hope you guys are forum members here. Anyways, it's a 79 with power steering, AC (possibly a dealer option). It has a York compressor and a WARN 8274 on the front. It even has the stock AM radio. It's been sitting for a few years. Unfortunately a good bit of rust to deal with but I've been down that road.
I've been hanging out in the 80 section but all along I have been hunting another "knock around" 40. Now the fun begins.

Congrats! Whats your plan? keeping it stock? Nice square bezel.

I'm gonna clean it up tomorrow and see what I got. I'm going to get it running first and then work on the metal. I'm going to keep it basically stock but maybe some lift and a few other mods. I have been looking for one that I can work on and drive. It's got some needs but I think it's a decent start.

That year body is especially prone to rust. If your going to tackle the rust on one of those its really worth taking the body off and just ripping and tearing. Im not sure if 3/4 reproduction tubs are made for that year. I know you can get whole tubs from Sven for that year.

Yeah I parted another 79 not long ago and it was awful. This one is not that bad. I'm going to clean it up tomorrow and get it in my shop and really evaluate it. I want to get it running first.

Congrats. How come I live in Birmingham and maybe see a 40 once a month or so(besides the partially built one in my garage). You come to town buy one and see 2 more? What's up with that. I must be hanging it in the wrong part of town.

Yeah it's not often you see two in one day or at all for that matter. I got his one in the area close to the zoo. As I was cutting back towards 280 I saw the yellow one coming out of a country club. The blue one was on 280 heading into Birmingham as I was heading out. They both were nice.

I'm glad you got that 40. I looked at it Thursday evening before you bought it but decided to pass. I don't really have a good spot to work on something right now but in hindsight I wish I bought it. Oh-well that's the way things go! Keep us posted how it turns out. It's a great start

Yeah I didn't buy it to flip it or part it. Hopefully soon I can get it up and running. It's gonna be a good bit of work but it deserves saving. I just wanted decent one to start on and make a knock around truck and a hunting cruiser. That's why I miss my 74 so much.

Who knew there were so many folks in Bham looking for cruisers. Didn't realize the country club crowd preferred cruisers either.

Did a lot of cleaning yesterday before I put it in the shop so I could see the rust and what I have to replace/fix. It's about what I expected but doable. I put some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and let it sit. Spun it over later on and all seemed good there. I put a little gas in the carb and it fires right up until the gas ran out each time. I'm changing the oil today and then I'm going to evaluate the gas tank. Looking promising so far.
