87cruzer, 6x9's fit in the rear panels in front of the wheel well. pop the panel so you know where the supports are, back the speaker mounting hole with some thin plywood to hold the weight of the speaker and take the off road abuse

I don't want anybody to bust my windows trying to rip off equipment so I just got a $100 cd changer under my passenger seat. This way I can still have my factory tape and radio on my dash which nobody would rip off.
The only regret that I have about my model of CD changer is that it does not play MP3's and does not play automatically when I start the car. Should have waited for the Mp3 versions CD changers.

Just pick up a cheap alarm system.......they can be annoying sometimes, but they do work for theft most of the time. :)

Yep, I got a no name MP3 player - coupled to a 400watt Isoprophile amp - out to four Boston Acoustic speakers - I am still lacking in bass - but have not bought a sub yet......I also have a Cobra hand held cb radio to conserve space and a bearcat scanner.......

Pioneer DEH-P5500MP (50x4) dash unit (in a Tuffy console) to a
Pioneer P120 12 disc changer (also in the Tuffy) to
Two MTX Thunder amps (under the passenger seat), one for
4 Pioneer door speakers (6x9s in the rear, seperates in the front)
(forgot the model numbers, they're the ones with the yellow cones)
One for the Rockford-Fosgate Sub (hung it in the rear so as to not take up valuable floor space).
Volume goes to 11.

Well I figured I would add my 2 cents. In my Hj 61 and my brothers 60 I put 6x9s in the frnt doors, yes it can be done with some metal cutting and by making a spacer ring out of MDF. Its a fair amount of work, doesn't look at all stock but it sounds great. Now is it worth it, who knows, try it tell me what you think :grinpimp: , is all about going big, my next plan is to put a 10" sub in frnt doors too haha. for the rest of my truck its simple , 10" sub in a box in the back, amp mounted in the factory amp Tray, a little bit of fabbing, and I have the high roof model so I kept the factory roof mounted speakers which sound fine, but 6x9s there too one day. :) Good luck with you systems, Just keep in mind there real trucks nothings perfect.

I just found this thread. So it looks like the range of speakers sizes that fit in the front doors goes from 4-6.5 inches. Is that about right? I am going to bid on some replacements for my current setup, which is sorely needed.

TIA,
Dub

Pioneer 5.25" in the door panels with the stock Cruiser covers. Pioneer 6.5"? in the rear with Pioneer covers. Cheap JVC Stereo/CD. All new wires and a new GM antenna. Sounds great and was all bought at Walmart cheap (antenna at NAPA). Stereo lasted about a year before it started skipping CDs. They are on ebay pretty cheap so I'll probably just slide the same thing in again and hope for the best

I still win...

My stereo sucks, but I don't care. :)

ColoradoFJ60-
Give me a holler if you're ever in the front range, I have a pretty nice setup. 12 disc changer mounted in tuffy box, 6" speakers in the front doors, 6x9" in the back.

I ordered a Kenwood KDC-MP628 head unit and their iPod interface that I'll be installing when I get home, and after I get home at some point I'll be ordering an Infinity Reference 7541a 4 channel amp (111W RMS each channel), Infinity Kappa 50.7cs 5 1/4" components for the front, and Inifinity Kappa 63.7i 6.5" coax speakers for the back. No subs because I don't want to have a big box screaming "STEAL ME!" in my truck.

Oh yeah, and assloads of Dynamat and LyTherm will be going in when I get home too. I expect it to sound like a brand new vehicle by the time I'm done :D

you might be able to work an 8" sub or two into the rear tailgate or rear cargo panels. I'm all for stealth too.

Hey Mitch,

hmm... electical stooopid and stereo stooopid closely related.

how do you have a 4ch amp (1000w right?) power 6 speakers? not sure how that works... What speakers / amp / placement?

I would like 6 speakers (4 in doors, 2 in cargo side panels) but not sure how F + R would work (thinking fade) and a sub. thoughts?

thanks!

Scion Pioneer HU

Anyone else put in a Scion Pioneer HU? I was able to swap the side brackets off the stock AM/FM/Cassette (can't believe Toyota maintained compatibility for the mounting brackets for ~20 years), but looking at major chiseling of either the dash opening or the Scion HU bezel.

Would like to know what worked for anyone who's done this previously...

It's pretty nice, otherwise. 160W (enough for me), AM/FM/CD/MP3 with SAT capability. Lots of them rolling through eBay if you watch.
