Hello, my name is Will. I'm currently based in Muscat and about to undertake a restoration project on an '83 FJ40. Here's a couple of photos from the day I picked her up. She came from Dank on the UAE side of country and has suffered the ill effects of a few years mcgyvering. The plan is to keep her as original as possible. Very inspired by honger's rebuild so might have to bring mine up to the UAE to get the work done there. First on the list is a front diff' rebuild and a new wiring loom.

Congrats! Very nice and clean.

FF rears. Nice. Does it have power steering and AC?

Welcome to the club.
Thanks Boozwz, it's relatively solid apart from the usual driver footwell issues and a slightly suspect paint job (best described as 'adding character'). The AC system is missing the compresor - I've been recommended a good AC specialist so we should be able to resurrect it. Yes, it's got the power steering too. I'd dread to imagine how much hard work it would be in sand without ;)

Well thats a great find then!

Good luck, and get a build thread started so we can follow along.

Cheers

Yes, nice find you got there. That full float rear axle is quite nice. Is it a 5-speed? =)

The brown door trim makes it look to be an LX, but it appears you have jumpseats in the rear. Is it an LX?

Apologies; I haven't got a clue; would the vin plate help designate the trim level? (FJ-40LV-MC). It's still got the stripy seats and flippy benches although someones swapped out the original mats for some insulation and carpet. It's still better than a lot of GCC trim options; my daily driver (2015 PAJERO) has beige fabric upholstery. Who thinks that's a good idea? Some of us go offroad. :) The parts guy at Ghala Toyota has been awesome at helping track down spares. It's amazing how much is still held in the region.

Its getting hard to find the 40s in Oman but if you head inland there's still a tonne of 45s running about. Towards Rustaq and the interior are a goldmine of older vehicles. It's not strictly a Toyota but we spied a Nissan patrol by the side of the road. We tracked down the owner out of curiosity but he was insistent on keeping hold of it. We also saw an old 60 being used for the school run but didn't manage to snap a picture. Seeing these trucks still in daily use makes them even more special!

Hey Will, looks like you got a great find there - congrats. How's the rebuild going?
If you are comfortable to do so, can you share the purchase price? I'm on the lookout for a '40 and its good to get a picture of relative prices.
Cheers

The 70 is so reliable in that extreme heat. If you haven’t already, check out golden tulip resort in Sharma is nice there. My fav restaurant is qarayah thurasiya in king khalid road al faisaliyah.

I think that is the restaurant expats call the "traditional village" the Haneeth and Margoog there is very good I have been there a few times with friends.

Welcome @RichyFJ70

Lovely swb. Got any plans for it other than exploring the surrounding areas of Tabuk? It’s a spectacular area and wish I lived closer; I’m trying to plan a trip there this winter so maybe we can link up.

Cheers
Hi, I've got front and rear Airlockers to put in and a compressor to mount. I'm also trying to work out if the change to tubeless tyres is a worthwhile investment of if keeping the split rims is just as good. We can try and meet up in the winter when it's a bit cooler

Guten Tag and Salam Aleikum,

I'm Juergen from Germany, working since a year now in Dhahran, enjoy the live here and wanted to say Hi.

At home my love goes to my HZJ-78

Which is used as a camper to explore.

Now I found this thread as I do look for more info about FJ43's
33939543mv.jpg

Because I just hijacked ;) one of this beauties.
33939544ry.jpg

Which goes now to Germany to meet the big blue Guy.
33939545qh.jpg

But what kind of person I would be to leave the FJ alone on that long journey in the dark container. So, I looked for an container-buddy and found an old German, but that is another story :).

Best regards,

Juergen
