My dad had a 49 chebby 3100. You had to close the door slow till it clicked, then push it with both hands. If you closed it regularly with the window down they would crack. It always had broken windows for as long as I can remember.

Bellhousing off. Hopefully reached the bottom of this self-induced rabbit hole. Time to start cleaning parts, modifying fj60 bellhousing for 55 mounts, and assembly.
Onward!

Thanks Bob.

Do I just need to loosen the back 2 bolts outside the oil pan to replace the rear main seal? It's barely leaking, but I'm in here....

Yes, the bolts are the rear main bearing caps. It's the 1 piece seal of the F engine.

Probably gonna take Bob's advice and leave well enough alone.

I would do that except for the fact that I bought these seats, in part, bc they have a buckled middle seat. Got lots of kiddos, so I was wanting more comfy front bucket seats while maintaining 3 front seats. We’ll see. Gotta lot of work to do before I get there. These just became available at a good price, so I jumped on them hoping they’d fit somehow.

Ready, fire, aim. Isn’t that the order?

You are looking at the main seal… put a new one in. The OEM isn’t cheap. But cheap isn’t good. Use a seal puller no loosening required on the main bearing caps. Be super careful reinstalling the new seal that you don’t peel the rubber back on the outer side.

Kinda a slower morning of work. Spent a lot of time trying to figure out which yokes will fit the tcase. I’ve got 55 and 60 yokes and neither fit it. Gotta go to the storage to pull a set of 40 yokes and try those. I have no idea what the heck is going on here. The tcase flange measures about 4 3/8” and 4 5/8” center to center on the bolt pattern. Moved from there back to the rear diff and got new studs installed.
