Great price....... but I just ordered a set of Roundeyes for dads 40 & my 4runner.

Would make a great comparison:idea:

They are pretty much junk.

eBay Motors: 79-01 JEEP CHEROKEE EURO 200mm H4 H6054 HEADLIGHTS (item 230154573158 end time Dec-12-08 12:50:06 PST)

Are alot higher quality. I run them on my pickup, and am very happy with them. They work very well. My complaint about them is they let moisture in the headlight.

As far as the headlights being dim, that is probably a wiring issue. Check to make sure your still getting over 12 volts at the headlight. I bet its closer to 10. Roger Brown (www.4crawler.com) has an overlay harness which fixes the issue.

Make a new harness yourself that was the biggest difference for me. After I upgraded my headlight and bulbs, it was a lot better but with the new harness it made the biggest difference. I was considering getting brighter bulbs but after making a harness and installing it I decided the bulbs I had were fine. I ran the power wire right off the alternator.

did you upgrade your harness before or after the new headlights?

your post looks like it could have been either way, just making sure. If you did the harness first then youre saying a new harness on factory headlights makes a noticable difference?

GRM,

The link that you posted goes to E code replacements. Here is the US we need to run DOT approved headlights. I will say that the E code headlights do provide a better light pattern without causing glare for oncoming traffic. If you run the E code headlights, you could get ticketed and even get you truck impounded until daylight. Hella does make a DOT approved replacement that has a better pattern than the original style sealed beams. In fact, Roger Brown is using the Hella DOT headlights in his truck.

Axed,

Go to the 4Crawler site and read about Roger's headlight upgrades. He says to check the voltage at your headlights and battery with the truck running. If the voltage at the headlights is within one half of a volt of what is at the battery, then the harness upgrade will not give you any noticeable improvement in light output. The voltage at the headlights in my truck was down 2 to 3 volts (low-high beam). So, I did both the harness and headlight upgrade. I bought the Round Eyes replacements. The harness that Roger sells on his site is high quality and it would have cost me more buying the parts to build it myself.

Here are a few photos of my conversion.

1. The Round Eyes headlights
2. The harness laid out to get the kinks out of it.
3. This is were I installed the relays and high beam feed back box.

That was one of the warnings I received from the XJ Club I have wheeled with in the past. Most of those guys run these headlights, which is how I found out about them.

If I get a ticket for these headlights, the cop had alot bigger problems with me than just the headlights. In fact, most officers I know can't tell me the difference between my headlights and my old ones.

But yes, they are 'illigal' and you should run the roundeyes or hellas

These are the 'legal' hella lights: http://store.summitracing.com/partd...A-003427861&N=700+4294887656+115&autoview=sku

I did my headlight first with some basic bulbs and Hella e-code. It would still make a difference just changing the harness with some sealed bulbs but a bigger difference if you got some good bulbs and reflectors.

You are correct in stating that they are not DOT approved. The e codes have a sharp cutoff and don't blind oncoming drivers. I have not heard of one person ever getting a ticket for not having DOT approved headlights. Maybe a ticket if they were just obviously too bright with no cutoff. I agree and would not put some offroad lights on my cruiser that blinded on coming drivers but the e codes are fine.

X2 on Roger Brown's website being very informative.

impounded? They just more strict in AZ?

Thanks for the info...I just got back inside after checking the voltage....I am reading like 12.2 on low beam and like 21 volts on high. I will give these lights a shot then if they are really s***ty I will do all the upgrades mentioned:cool: shot

No!

It all depends on the Officer that pulls you over and why he pulled you over. A headlight violation is give when they can't find anything else. If this is at night, they can impound the vehicle until daylight. Usually, you have done something to torque off the Officer and they are looking for anything that they can nail you on for this to happen.

Bad picture. But you get the idea of the AutoPal lights. They have significantly more range than the stock headlights. They look a bit yellow in the pictures because a)my camera was making it look yellow, and b) they are the cheap h4 bulbs from ebay. I'll probably upgrade the lights on of these days. They are brighter and more crisp than the volvo DD you see in the photo.

i think if your lights are not either stock style replacements or HELLA H4's they are cheesey. and not the good cheesy like cheeseburgers.

i run the HELLA H4's.
Its hard to tell in these pics, but the light beam looks like its cut out. there is no blarrff light all over not doing anything. it looks crisp and clean cut.

they have the road legal bulb. i think its 45/55W

now in these shots i leave on my lows when i turn on my highs. i have them wired to run independently of any other circuit.

this is lows

here is the low and high. that second mailbox on the right is about 65 yards away.
