Looks fantastic Anthony.

Got all the heater hoses connected up and the interior light installed with the soft top. All that's left are wipers and doors.

Oh and getting the spare tire installed tomorrow morning.

That is a sick trick 40. Nice work all the way around.

I could have sworn I had stock tire size. Bolts dig into spare tire. Is this normal? should I be concerned?

Sooooooo did you guys know the door gasket can go on backwards? I need to take the passenger door back offv and flip the gasket. It curves out and it should curve in. I'm not sure if this is how the oem gasket is but the SOR one is sided...

is this normal ...

The reason being is that the original tires were just under 8" wide... Newer equivalent tires are wider... Yours is probably like 9.5" or so... What size are they?

concerned... I wouldn't be

alright.. cool. I bought a 1/4'' spacer so that should help too.

They are 235/75/15 = 28.9x9.3/15

some more assembly today... swapped that gasket around and installed the running boards and wipers. I also broke down the process of how to make new felts for FST doors using the hard door felts that are still available from Toyota.

The felts are taped on the back with silver foil tape to help add some strength but it isn't necessary.. once it is snapped in place you can't even tell it has been modified.

Hay ant

I don't recall reading about the steering damper ... It looks like a HD one... Not OME or Oem ... Is it jto ?

It had a picture of a green hulk on it - IRONMAN 4x4. Just checked my e-mail receipts - it is a foam cell damper I got from CCOT.

Looks like they don't sell it anymore though. Seems to work fine. Honestly, I don't know why I didn't go stock with it. You bring up a good point though... I wanted to start a game to see who could spot all of the things that aren't "stock" 9/1970 build date.

Its a really good build... Do you really want this? Can you handle the truth? lol

:)

I see a ton just looking at it, but I did them on purpose.

Hood hooks should be body color.. same with the rear license plate holder. the front license plate holder is the later one.. not the early model one. Disc brakes instead of drum.. doesn't have the stock dizzy or coil. Running boards are later model ones... the list goes on...

Ant, I think it's perfect. Wow, you did a fantastic job on this one. I really like the color of the top with the Fashion Green. Enjoy it, it's like having picked up a new 71 at the dealership. Most likely it still has the new car smell.

Mark

Thanks Mark! I wasn't able to use those gaskets after all. They are a chewed up on the outside and they look out of place. I'm trying aftermarket option now. Do you want them back?

soooo did you guys know that 1971 exhaust went UNDER the skid plate and that the "stock exhaust" still available today is supposed to go over the skid? Only problem is that the 71 skid plate needs to be modified in order for that to happen... Also... I found two of the six skid plate bolts were broken off in the frame... I was supposed to drill them out 3 years ago when the frame was upside down. I got them out no problem except for the fact that I had a trip to the flight doc for what I thought was pink eye (my daughter has it right now) only for him to end up pulling a piece of metal out. He also had a super tiny wire wheel he used on my eye to get the rust out of my eye. GOOOOD TIMES.

besides the skid plate, rear bump stops, and? im sure something else this thing is done.

Ant, sorry to hear that you can't savage them. I don't need them back. I do have the number of the guy out here Oregon that I bought my gaskets from. Not sure if he has any of those left, but I will give him a call and check.
Happy T-Day!

Mark
