soooo did you guys know that 1971 exhaust went UNDER the skid plate and that the "stock exhaust" still available today is supposed to go over the skid? Only problem is that the 71 skid plate needs to be modified in order for that to happen... Also... I found two of the six skid plate bolts were broken off in the frame... I was supposed to drill them out 3 years ago when the frame was upside down. I got them out no problem except for the fact that I had a trip to the flight doc for what I thought was pink eye (my daughter has it right now) only for him to end up pulling a piece of metal out. He also had a super tiny wire wheel he used on my eye to get the rust out of my eye. GOOOOD TIMES.

Yeah, really fun. I had similar fun when the doc took out a chunk on my eye ... I saw the rust circle then it started really hurting so I went to the eye doctor. I still recall when the doc said "look at one point and don't move your eye", as I watched him holding an scalpel coming closer, and closer, and closer as he cut out the rust circle.

People think I am nuts when I use my Oakley safety glasses and a full hood cutting metal..... nope, just don't want to have that again!

Yeah , safety glasses are worth the price of admission . Spent 30 days going to the Doc and having litmus strips dragged across the right eye to dye it , all sorts of gadgets to look inside at the damage and slow healing from a lousy piece of dirt - it still doesn't work very well and affects my ability to weld casing pipe at work . So yeah , never hear me complain about safety glasses or face shields .

The key thing (so I have heard) is actually wearing your glasses on your eyes, not on your forehead.

The Oakley's I bought are the same as my sunglasses frame flakjacket, but are clear lenses. Got on clearance because of the hideous color, but I find that I never take them off. I forget they are there as they are so comfortable and don't fog up. Yes, it was about $100, but I keep my eyes protected always!

My biggest problem is that I wear prescription glasses, which happen to fog real bad when I wear a safety shield over the top. Sarge, that second one that claims no fogging sure sounds interesting.

A few months ago I finally got new prescription glasses (I always get safety lenses), something I really needed but had been putting off for several years due to lack of funds. A few weeks after that I got some dirt in my right eye that I probably should have gone to a doctor for, but due to the huge Dr bills in the last year for my wife I never went. Now my right eye, with the glasses on, seems to be right back where it had been with the old prescription lens. I wasn't wearing a face shield because of the fogging problem, so something must have bounced off my cheek and into my eye.

Murphy never fails.

Almost all eye injuries I've had in the past came from debris that bounced off or deflected from something else . I'm in the same boat with prescription glasses and mine are about as strong as they can make them - I put up with jokes like "you can see the future with these things" , or , "do you use them to melt rocks?" . Goes with the territory of having extreme myopia that cannot be repaired - orbits are nearly 1.5" long vs being round , stretching is causing nasty blind spots . Welding is getting tough and doing any accurate fine work or even reading isn't fun and causes nasty migraines . I have bought more grinding shields and safety equipment in the last 10 years to fund a new car - tough to find anything that will work in temperature extremes and not fog up . No amount of anti-fog crap works either . Biggest issue is back glare outside - my main blasting shield for doing sandblasting has a cloth hood I made to keep the back half away from light - that helps the most .

I haven't tried the Uvex bionic shield yet , plan to order one soon though .

Sorry for hijack..
@Weber Sarge thanks for the idea on the bionix shield. ordered one on amazon, and used it this AM. Works great. Replacement lenses were $4, nice and cheap. Had to use earplugs, as my old shield had integrated ear muffs, only downfall.

Anyway, worked great, great vision, and seemed to protect me better.

Thumbs up.

I got 32k for mine. And yours was done at a higher level. I imagined at least 40k.

But I am glad you got what you wanted.

Looking forward to your next build. :)

Looks like a 64 is up next for me. :)

Congrats Ant. That guy got a deal.

Btw puttin your soft top on in within a couple weeks cant wait.

Mike

Congrats Ant ! Hope you don't regret it being gone .
2fpower - do you wear glasses with that bionic shield ??
Sarge

Yes on the glasses. The shield is so light, it is easy to forget it is on.

thanks guys! I had a lot of people trying to back door BaT. In fact many said "can I buy it after it doesn't sell?" I told them to bid and now they are messaging me asking if they can buy if it the deal falls through or if they can buy my next one!! This one took four years so I told them not to hold their breath waiting for my next!

That's typical of bottom feeders. They're usually looking to lowball, hoping you're so devastated that your thing didn't sell that you'll take their "helpful" offer. Most of the time if you make like you'll take their proposal they'll start making excuses and conditions. Best to just ignore them.

BaT has a pretty good system in place for when a seller's reserve isn't met but its close, they will apply some of the 5% buyer's premium to meet the reserve.

What's funny is the people who discuss the "incorrectness" of a restored rig, have no clue what it takes to get a rig built with that kind of quality.
Much less having the ability to build one themselves.
Don't talk "s@#! Unless you can do better.

Another thing that gets me is the chatter may drive potential bidders away.

Glad it turned out for you.
