BTW, I've been working to get rid of drone for a while now. I lined the whole interior with butyl mat and some in the doors and in the rear quarters. Then laid some mass load mat front to rear, then a little thin bit of foam and all the carpet back on. I also bought a roll of 3M sound deadening stuff that looks like insulation batting. It helped a little, but not nearly enough. I don't know what this truck sounds like with a stock exhaust from Toyota, but when I got it the whole exhaust was rotten. So it's got a Magna flow down pipe with cat, a second manga flow cat and after-market OEM replacement exhaust to the rear and it still droned like an SOB. Just recently I was thinking about what someone said and thought I'd followed, but realized I didn't do enough. They said the biggest different they experienced was the 3M sound deadening in the rear quarters. So I pulled out the rest of the roll and proceeded to pack the passenger rear quarter and tail gate with as much of that crap as I could fit in there. Now I definitely see a difference. In fact some days I forget about the exhaust altogether. Which is something because it was so annoying before there was no forgetting it. Now I can listen to the radio at a normal volume or carry on a conversation like a normal person.

This is the stuff Amazon product ASIN B074XLJ4Q1
That is an awesome tip! I used some NVX sound deadining and it definitely helpd, but the drone is crazy! I'll try this too. Thanks!!

Nice write up. Thanks for posting. Makes me really want to do the swap. Started a LS swap on my 79 IH Scout/ Traveler, but then sold the project this past August. I can see doing a swap on the cheap as my 5.3/4L60E running combo was only CAN$1700, a NP41C t-case was only $350, and I fabbed up my own engine mounts and trans support crossmember. It’s the wiring that would scare me, but seems there is plenty enough info out there on LS swaps to get it done without too much heartache.
That IH Scout sounds awesome! I'd love to do one of those some day.

I had virtually zero wiring experience before this, if that helps it seem less daunting! I highly recommend getting a power probe (or the Kyzee knock off one from Amazon that I have). It's a game changer once you know how to use it!

Lauren, Here's the walk-around video we did at SAS 7. Great to meet you and awesome truck!

Thanks! It was great to meet you too and super fun to do the walk through! Hopefully I get to wheel with you next year!

I was camped right across from you at SAS.
Nice meeting you, wish I would have known to check out your swap !!
The week went by so fast.

Great job on the swap !!

Any pics from Moab?😁
We didn't end up getting out to Moab! We hung around Ouray a few days longer. It was a blast! It was awesome meeting you and seeing your swap! Hope you guys had a good trip back.

what radiator hose is this and the piece off the throttle body, if you don't mind?
It's a cut up upper radiator hose from a 2017 Silverado. The piece off the throttle body is just a tight 90. I can't quite remember no, but I think I got it off Amazon :)

It was good meeting you! Loved the bar work on your truck! The week went by too fast! We will have to catch up more next year.

Resurrecting an old-ish thread. Looking at doing this swap over the winter. Great parts list and write-up!

Thanks! Good luck with your swap! Post up as you do it! I love seeing all the different little things people do. I'm thinking of finally finishing the NSS wiring project this winter, and then I'll be 100%!

Another build thread for an LS Swap. I'll be posting the budget and parts spreadsheet when all is said and done. The haters say it can't be done for less than $5k. I say bring it on!

Starting vehicle is a 1994 FZJ80 I bought back in May 2018. Here is the previous owner's build thread for those curious: Builds - My first Land Cruiser (Now official overland/camping build thread) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-first-land-cruiser-now-official-overland-camping-build-thread.954730/

This is my first build thread on MUD so be gentle haha. This is just for the engine swap and won't detail everything else I've done to the truck. I may make another thread for that at some point.

It all started a few weeks ago, found out I have a blown head gasket (cyl. 5 and 6, 53 psi), plus the AC is on its way out, and the trans is starting to slip a little. at close to 300k, Mr. Toyota says its time. I will be selling the 1FZ and trans in a few months, so DM me if you're interested. I just don't want to put the money into a motor that is only making 212 hp, and since I live in FL, a highway drive is needed for any fun trips, and this trans is not not really the most fun trying to keep up with traffic on the interstate.

I had a solid find, a 2002 GMC Yukon XL Denali 1500 for $700. AWD transmission, so wrong spud shaft for this project, but the motor (LQ4, 6.0L) is making 40psi oil pressure at idle, easy start up with 300k on the odometer. Drove the truck around, loaded it on the trailer, brought it home. Plan right now is to scrap the truck body, sell the trans and transfer case. Trading the rear end to my dad for a 4L60E he pulled out of a 2wd suburban that became the donor 6.0 LS for his 4WD C10 project.

Got the oil pan needed to clear the front driveshaft off of amazon for $206.00.

Amazon product ASIN B00BZR4ZW6
Ordered my exhaust manifolds and gaskets from Summit today. I went with universal swap manifolds to hopefully clear the frame rails.

I'm planning on using some super sweet, super custom, prototype motor mounts from CruiserMatt's Off-Road.

Right now the plan is to pull the drivetrain next weekend and start working on the wiring harness and ECU. Bummer at the moment is lack of availability of the Marks 4WD/ Advanced 4L60E to HF2A adapter. If anyone is selling that adapter, hit me up!

TTFN!

Just thought I would drop this here! @cruisermatt helped a bunch with my swap, and in the process used my trials and tribulations to come up with this sweet plug and play set of hoses for the 80 swap. He has the hoses, and the firewall adapters for 91/92 with the R12 and the 93+ with the r134a if you don't want to deal with crimping your own. I thought that was super cool!

In my shopping list!

Just LS Things- Troubleshooting:

...

Issue 3: READ THIS! The Marks adapter is mildly trash. The weight of the transmission puts enough stress on the aluminum adapter that it strips out the bolt holes and causes a trans leak and the adapter to become loose. It is absolutely worth the time/ money/ effort to timesert or helicoil all parts of the adapter before install. Also when you can, replace the Mark's provided socket cap screws with GM hardware to make your like not suck. The adapter pulled apart on me after less than a mile of driving and we had to pull the tcase and trans again.

Any reason the three pieces of the Mark's adapter couldn't be TIG welded together into one unit? It looks like all the bolt holes needed to attach the adapter to the GM Transmission and the Toyota transfer case are accessible from the outside. Also, installing/changing the transmission output shaft seal would remain unchanged.

That is a bit extreme but I do like to do thread-inserts on all the threads before install now

No reason other than serviceability. I also imagine that there is a very small potential for some warping which could cause an issue with the spud shaft adapter or the seal surface.

In the video you mentioned a google spread sheet of parts needed... I know you also started your own YT channel. Would you be able to share a that DOC or maybe you'll be going over it soon on vid?

I am look at the 6.0 and just trying to do as much research as possible before I get in over my head.
