A bit of warning about the Gano filter - mine is starting to crack a bit (clear view model) . I'll replace it with the metal one so the clamping force of the hose clamps doesn't destroy it over time . Always keep having a cold water leak where the hoses drip slowly overnight with the clear plastic unit . When I get the new one it's getting a thin o-ring added at each end to help seal the hoses . Wish I didn't have to use it but the block got rusted pretty good from po's and not destroying a new radiator . This last year I've had to remove and clean the screen 4 times - lot of particles in it .

Sarge

Sarge, hopefully I can get away from using the Gano filter after a year or so, I did clean the block out pretty good, scraped and vacuumed for a few days. I just wanted to use it for a safety precaution for a while until I can catch most of the junk. The original radiator I had was blocked up top and in the core as well. I opened it up as an experiment! Really just to see how bad it was clogged.
Thanks for the intel on the filter though, I appreciate it.

I think in the spring we should get 2 FJ40s together at the secret stream!

Be sure Jeff drives in blindfolded ... Some of the best interrogators I've encountered are fly fishermen ... We have ways of making you speak

I'm in!

Just an FYI...The Cheat river was just stocked w/Brood Trout/10-12lb range....I may go on Sunday if the weather holds.

Negative. Sealed power if I remember correctly. I had issues from the git go with them, sent the first 6 back

Good Intel....

Once the engine was bolted into the frame I started on some other items, new brake lines were the biggest thing. I am using the copper/nickel tubing for all new lines, so far the stuff seems legit, I won't really have any good info available until I get to road test it. The stuff bends nice, flares nice, and is overall very easy to work. New fittings going in everywhere, new calipers up front, waiting to get new cylinders in the rear.

Got started up front as well, mounted all the cooling system, new WP, old fan clutch, new hoses, new radiator, the works. I had to do some hack work to get the Gano filter in the upper hose, wound up cutting a hose from Napa into a couple pieces.

The intake and exhaust manifolds were a project by themselves, they just needed some cleaning for the most part. Once I separated them I found the heat shield in between them was cracked, a little mud searching lead me to the Spector stainless steel plate, it required a little trimming of the flap on the exhaust manifold. Nothing some power tools can't fix. While my wife was out of town last weekend I washed the intake in thw dishwasher, and baked some exhaust manifold paint in the oven, by the next morning there was no evidence! Last night I had a chance to bolt everything back in place, new OEM gasket and some copper spray, cinched all the bolts per spec and moved along.....

LOL......There an idea for a thread all on its own!!!

Installed a new clutch assembly last week, new clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Everything went smooth until I had the clutch fork and throwout bearing installed, they just did not look right, too much play..... Play in clutch fork
So after some beer and tool turning I figured something out.

Now I am finishing up with the driveshafts, waiting on some seals from Beno before I can get that end finished. Back on the engine end, I used some epoxy on the heat shield for the carb, it had a huge crack in one of the wings, fixed, painted, and installed through the week, carb is bolted down, ready to run fuel lines to it!

I took some time Saturday between football games on tv and hung a new LED light in my garage, makes my fluorescent lights look like candles!

Pics to come soon.

Before the carb went on.

I have also been cleaning up the parking brake components.

Clean, paint, wrench, beer, beer, beer, OU FOOTBALL, clean, paint, wrench, OU FOOTBALL, BEER, BEER, BEER.

That is the story from the last couple weeks!

I have been working on plumbing and electric on the rear of the frame for the last week or so. Huge problems at work kept me there for way more hours than I like. New fuel lines going in from the tank to the pump/filter, I reworked the rear wiring harness, cleaned up connections, got it covered with 3M heat shrink last night. I used 1/2 for most of the harness with exception of the last leg across the rear crossmember, I used 3/8. I need to replace a few spade connectors here and there and I am going to replace most of the bullet connectors while I am at it. Waiting on a couple rear wheel cylinders and I can wrap the rear brakes up and get it back on 4 wheels again.

Knock'en it out!!! That is turning out to be one very nice "fishing" buddy!!

Christmas has slowed the roll this week, we went to NYC also. I did manage to score an older 4 plus brush guard from Craigslist for $150! It looks like it is in great condition, no bends or rust. I will post up a couple pics soon. Picked up the last two rear brake cylinders today as well. Now it is time to install some stuff.

@ChungasRevenge looks like I will be getting in some wader time this week! Hopefully tomorrow I will hunt some brookies on a local stream in the rain, perfect day for small dry flies.
