Nothing new, power washing the axles, leaf springs, and a few other things. Been busy with the day job, and hanging with the family afterwards.

So there are 4 different Harbor Freight stores within a few hours of my house, instead of just driving to one and getting a spray gun to shoot some paint I ordered one online. Well apparently they like to ship from across the country, California to be more precise. Really put a delay on things here, been doing small things, axles are stripped and ready to paint, I honed the engine block today and spent a lot of time cleaning it up afterwards. Took it to the local machine shop to install the camshaft bearings, and balance/ polish the crankshaft. The camshaft was sent to Delta Camshaft in Tacoma a couple weeks ago, went with a KC grind after talking with them for a while, I am waiting for it to come back in the mail this week. Then to run it up to the local machine shop to verify the cam bearings and cam all work like they should.

Block this morning before I made a hell of a mess!

Stuff that is in the immediate works as I progress-

Finish the Rust Bullet on the frame, I have the base down, waiting on the spray gun to shoot the black topcoat.

New body mounts-I'm looking at the energy suspension kit, comes with all the body mounts, and 24 spring bushings, @ $145 (plus 20% off at Autozone)

Shocks- Looking at some Bilsteins 5100 series for this part of the project, I have found prices from @$75-100 ea. or 4wheelparts has a set of 4 priced at $279. I need to get measurements from my old shocks to cross reference to the Bilstein shocks.

I am redoing all the brake lines while it is apart, looking at going with the cunifer type of tubing, and all new fittings, front to rear. Maybe $100-125 in materials here from the wide world of the intertubes.

I need to inspect the rear brake cylinders while they are out, and I am replacing the front calipers, I hade found some issues with them earlier this year while I was doing a knuckle rebuild. $$-$$$

Pinion seals on both front and rear may get replaced, I had a small leak from both of them, nothing major but it did leak enough to get gear lube everywhere. Depending on how deep I have to get into the diff, new cork gaskets all the way around. $$

New tie rod end kit, I'll just say it is time. $85 from Kurt@cruiseroutfitters

That should get me with the frame back as a rolling chassis to drop the engine back into, the engine will start going together within the next couple of weeks, once I get the camshaft back from Delta Cam, after that it is a 2 day turn around from my local shop. More on the engine as it starts to come along. There will be a 2-3 week hiatus from the whole thing while we are on vacation, taking the kids on a field trip to Boston, for some American history lessons, and then up to Maine for a little over a week!

Nice work! I love Rust Bullet as well. I coated my whole interior floor with it and then painted black over it. No issues at all two years later. Very little prep work done either. I've used it anywhere that I needed to paint, especially areas prone to rust. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, I did invest a lot of time in getting the frame cleaned and prepped good for the RB, but it was simple, just time consuming. I just don't want to have to come back and deal with anything later (at least in the near future), also planning on shooting the bottom of my tub with the rust inhibitor if time and resources allow. The metal blast prep was super simple though, even gave me enough time for a cool beer while I waited!

Not sure how I missed this one.

Bummer on the 2F. Love the tear down and effort so far. Like you say, not reinventing anything but we all enjoy a good tear down and refurb here don't we?

And heck, I even learned some Shakespeare while catching up!

Good tune for this weather, and just like I like my beer, "country cool"

Surprisingly I received a package from Harbor Freight today, 11+ days in shipping, they must have given it to a drug smuggler who got tied up with ICE and released in another state. Back on topic now, got a spray gun to finish the Rust Bullet, hopefully I can shoot tomorrow after I get back from work. I finished stripping the rear axle down last night, got it cleaned and ready for the most part, I still need to do a final cleaning of all oil and grease from it after opening it up. Other than that I haven't had much action going on, it was HOT and HUMID here this last few days, now some cooler drier weather has settled in for a few days, time to get busy!

No help this weekend, I actually have to go to work for a few hours today and tomorrow. Hopefully after I get home today I can get the Rust Bullet finished .

That's kind of what I was reading, and now that the base layer has had 2 weeks to cure, I have to go back and spend half a day sanding to "open up the pores" according to the RB website.
