@matzell speaks from experience.

Here is the vent from the front axle. Sure enough there is a fine wire spring inside of the cap and a rubber disc that is held on the top of the nipple by the spring. I would like to think after many years of road grime and gear oil building up on that vent that it would get clogged or the cap seize up and render the whole setup useless.

No s***?! I’d never have guessed.

Breather fitting from the front axle of a 60 series. Should work on a 40. Appears to be NLA in North America but available through Partsouq and Ebay. < $5.

on the tcase I just ripped that top part/spring loaded off and pushed some heater/fuel line over the little stub and hose clamped it on. id imagine a barb would be more secure on an axle, but it take a a bit to pop that hose off and on the tcase it doesn’t get that much movement.
my axles are extended but honestly I don’t remember if it’s the same setup or Barbed.

I raised my tcase and both diff vents, using the same fuel line/screw clamps. I tee’d all three lines together and attached them to new barb fitting on the air cleaner. Never came off, nary a problem.

But I can’t recall if I ever raised the tranny vent... probably didn’t, since I felt the top of the tranny shift tower was higher than any raging southern and eastern NV stream anyway.

There’s water in Nevada??

There’s water in Nevada??

I’m laughing at you, not with you:D

My point, albeit obscure, was the unlikely possibility of encountering water much deeper than the hubs.

I’ve “forded“ several streams (San Juan Creek is one) that wet the hubs, but I had a snorkel...

I always had to cross San Juan 8 times, to get to my campsite, but it was the same thin stream at every crossing.

And my snorkel was used to pull fresh air from the carb... not to prevent water in the carb. I also carried an extra ladies nylon in the snorkel and one in the glovebox... just in case:rofl:

But, never question Nevadans who are able to practice the fine art of fly fishing, or any kind of fishing, in the northern half of much of Nevada... they get to fish the Truckee and Walker Rivers and Pyramid Lake. ( The 11 Best Fly Fishing Spots In Nevada Only Locals Know About )

There’s other good water as well: I caught over 100 rainbows in a single day, out of a stream smaller than most urine streams...none larger than 5” and none kept. I think I must have been fishing fairly immediately downstream from where the stockers were being fired out of a water cannon. It was fun on a 7’ 3wt, using whatever I tied on... they were hungry, but I almost had heatstroke by the time I climbed out of that canyon.

I also caught a lot of 12” rainbows in Cave Lake, standing knee deep and slinging dries. Also fun and kept none.

Haymeadow Reservoir was great fun in an inflatable pontoon. Trout practically jumping over the boat to get at my fly... and bass fishermen throwing dirty looks because there are good bass in there, but the water was still too cold. I caught quite a few around 14-16”. None kept.

It’s surprising how you can find decent fish in water so shallow they have to jump to get wet.

But, Pyramid Lake is different, it’s home to huge Lahontan cutthroat trout. They are fished from stepladders... not because of their size... more because of casting into heavy wind. But, I’m sure some old time fishermen had to ride their catch until they could beach them.

Sorry for the hijack Ryan... I haven’t BS’d much lately and it IS tech!!

Well, guys! I'm in Sun Valley so Ryan and I are pretty close geographically speaking. Only a small mountain range separates us. Ryan has some Black Label and a camp fire, which is nice. I have about 47 different IPA's and 3 different Rye whiskeys and a thirst to match, which is also nice. Our only problem is Solace in Solitude... he has a camp fire and a Lab. Two of the most elemental needs of a human; fire and a dawg, but he is way to hell and gone in Nevada... and a dog beside the camp fire in my opinion is vital. And of course if Ryan is going to post a photo we need a FJ40, a stream and some kind of ichthyological specimen for him to hold aloft. Oh, and meat. We're going to need meat. I'm an African. Real meat not Southern Fried chicken. RED meat. (Where the hell did you Americans get the idea that us Africans eat chicken?) I've got about 10lbs of biltong too, for those of you who understand what that means, but a chop and a piece of boerewors is what life is about.

So we've got a problem with you Solace in Solitude. How are we going to do this thing of sitting around a camp fire with a "dop" in hand and a chop on the coals while I tell you how I caught a coelacanth bare handed while fighting off a marauding Great White and an Ozzie Sheila with both my hands tied behind my back and repairing a puncture on a split rim while surrounded by a Zulu impi, when you are stuck in balmy Nevada tanning your legs?

You could try the virtual gathering, it would work from a social distancing point of view

Good Irish whiskey undoubtedly cures one of the Kung-Flu.
Unfortunately this years whisky trail was cancelled, its like a downward spiral. Things are worse without it but you can’t get it because of.🥺

This is at McMaster-Carr for $7.25 if you'd rather roll your own...
Metal Barbed Hose Fittings for Air and Water
Slide the barbed end into rubber hose and secure with a clamp or a crimp-on hose ferrule.
Brass fittings are softer than other metal fittings, so they’re easier to thread together. They have good corrosion resistance. Fittings with a threaded end are also known as hose nipples.
