Just got back from a good climb we have here called Turnagain Pass. It goes from sea level to about 900ft in about 3mi. The last part is steeper. 67mph/20psi boost/700egt/186F’ish water. Lost about 3mph cresting the top. Looks like I could use more fuel but I think I have the fuel screw all the way out for max fuel.🤷‍♂️

So, not having the grid heater hooked up, it's 24V anyway so don't know how well it would do on 12V, this morning it was about 10F when we got to church. We left about 2.5hrs later and outside temp got up to about 20F. It started just fine, so that is promising about not having to worry too much about cold starts when just below freezing. What it would do off over night or off up to 8hrs at 10F or so, or colder, would be interesting to see. Probably won't test that out by choice since I don't like freezing ;)

Do you have a block heater?
Yes, but doesn’t work if you park where there is no electricity 😉. I still deciding on whether to install the Espar or not. I won’t be using the ute for driving to work so won’t be leaving it out in the cold for very long any time.

That’s true. The one I have takes a solid couple hours to warm things up. Only use it below freezing and have a timer set to turn on 4 hours before I want to leave.

Just another chance for a glamour shot😁

Got a little package from Steve Jackson, thanks. The old antenna from the BJ70 I had was kinked and been wanting to replace it and put it in the ute. In the first picture you can see the difference between a rhd and lhd antenna. You have to change the foot piece. Didn’t spend any time trying to figure out how to adapt a rhd one to lhd since I had the old antenna. Sure was fun installing that without loosening/removing the upper fender. Hopefully will not have to do that again.

The bolt on the arm needs to be reversed on the rhd arm.

For those who plumb the crankcase breather overboard and live in cold climates, consider doing this little trick used in aviation, cut a slit in the hose close to the crankcase breather outlet. This will provide a relief if the hose freezes closed.

Replaced the 12HT grid heater with a aluminum unit made by one of our members on here(ukaviator). You can see the difference in opening between the two. Took it for a drive but my but dyno didn’t really register any improvements, but egt May have dropped just a tad. Nice unit.

If you have been following along you will remember me coming to the conclusion that I need more air intake (size). The 3” intake I made out of 3” exhaust pipe. Was a bit of work and definitely heavier than the factory plastic snorkel. Was going to build a 4” snorkel but decided to try the Safari Airmax which I was under the impression of being a 4” snorkel. I got the only one that was still in stock in the US - got through Cruiser Outfitters. Unfortunately the I.d. at the narrowest part is 3.7”. Oh well.
