Aftermarket FJ40 Dash Pad

Thought I would drop a couple of FYI's on here.

Updated website so that we can take credit cards. Never really thought about it as I always used PayPal but recently have had several customers wanted to pay by CC. Wow talk about getting up to the 20th Century!!!! We might even get a color TV next year.

Second Note:

We are going to be at a Trade Show next week (Has nothing to do with Land Cruisers but Cattle) So if anyone orders 1/29/18 through 2/4/18 we won't be able to ship until the week of 2/5/18.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR 40!!!

I've got to tell you, I would have purchased one of your dash pads years ago if it didn't have your logo front and center. Do you have any future plans to move/remove the logo?

Spot,

I've thought about it, however it's a double edge sword.

I would love to remove the Logo, I wish the porosity never showed up in the tool which is the reason for the Logo.

We seem to sell quite a few of them with the Logo and most say they don't even notice it.

The downside is there isn't enough market to justify a new tool when I've got so much money tied up in this one.

Hope that explains it.

Regarding the logo, @SMG could probably make custom inset plates with double sided tape or other adhesive that could be placed there that could say anything. Land cruiser, FJ40, name of the cruiser, etc. Just another option for those that don't like the logo.

Yes, I can do this. I thought about making one for myself. Maybe a cool little bezel or something.
I’ll take some measurements tonight.

Dang, forgot that logo was there till this thread popped back up!.....Yea, in a hour or so, when I jump in my 40 to go home, I'll forget about it again. After about 4 years with my indestructible FJ40Dash installed, I'd do all over again! Oh, I like the dash pad so much, it wasn't long till I purchased the lower dash pads as well.

Thanks once more, @fjgoober

I could bet you’d sell another 20 at the least if you made them without the logo! Including one for me!

Still wondering if it could be covered without making it worse looking with 3M Black 5200 and a wax paper mold?

When I had my woodworking business, about twice a year I would get a request from a customer to have my logo deleted. I could do that since the logo would be added once the item was complete. So I added an extra charge for the deletion. I even asked one customer if the car they were driving had logos and if they asked for the logos to be removed before purchase. As for me I paid a ton for the logo and used it to identify me from the run-of-the-mill maker who did slipshod work so I understand why the dash manufacturer added his logo. He and I are proud of our work, take great pains to insure top quality and will back the claims up 100%. So the next time you ask a manufacturer to remove a logo, ask yourself why it is there and would you ask your local car dealer to remove all the logos from a car you purchased?

BTW I have upper and lower dash pads from this maker and I have no problems with having their logo front and center.

I am not crazy about logos on my things. I figure if I advertise I should get a residual.

My dash was cracking and after looking into the price of a replacement I decided to DIY it.

I could come up with the money, it is just that in years past I couldn't afford somethings and got in the habit of making my own.

So now I am just a cheapskate.

It could be argued I did my dash for free as the materials used were left over from other money saving projects.

I estimate if I bought the materials special it would be $8 for the spray adhesive, $10=15 for the flexible filler, can't remember what it was and $15-20 for the vinyl. These are estimates so it would total of about $43. Of course there is your labor But in my case being cheap I didn't pay very much.

Do you still make and sell these?

Yes, inventory is running low but they are in stock. However I just went to the web-site and I need to update the front page as it's talking about shipping during Thanksgiving of last year.

BTW as said above inventory is low but we are running that chemistry this week and we will have inventory numbers back up in a couple of days.

Good to know. I am currently wiring up a frame off, and once the switches are in, this guy’s gonna need some pads.

Still haven’t gotten around to installing mine. D’oh.

What are the dimensions of the logo?

What are the dimensions of the logo?

Tiny. Once installed in a 40 the embossed logo is almost undetectable. A non-issue. Actually smaller than the Toyota logo on the front of your 40.

Logo is small. I am a graphic designer and can be hyper-detail oriented (some might say "anal"). ESPECIALLY when it comes to logos and what they mean and who I choose to advertise for etc...

Full Transparency: I don't LOVE that the logo is there. I DO understand that FJ40Dash did not originally intend to put it there. If you understand tooling and manufacturing, it makes sense how it came to be, and although unfortunate, is not really THAT noticeable.
I'm also betting that the modern chemistry will hold up better against the sun than OEM.

If you are doing a concourse-focused restoration, you can still find OEM dash pads floating around out there, and you shouldn't be looking in this thread anyway. The price difference for OEM wasn't worth it (for me) since the only visible difference to my eye is that little logo. My level of crazy is not quite that high.

Will I cover the logo with something else? Maybe. I liked someone's idea about putting a mini bezel pin-like thing there. But I'm also REALLY pleased with the quality of the dash pads/roll pads. Whenever I am walking people through what I've done to the truck, I always mention the dash pads during the "tour". I don't mind that their logo is there if they get some credit for the great product they make for the community. I was annoyed, and planned to cut the Cruiser Corps tags off my upholstery too, but I changed my mind BECAUSE I am so happy with them. If my truck is parked at a Toyota event, and someone peeks in, I'm actually happy to "advertise" for these products.

How many aftermarket parts companies for the 40 series have gone the way of the buffalo? Any support we as a community can give them will only ensure that they are still around on our next build.

Thanks for the top shelf product @fjgoober. Just like CityRacer's stuff, If you had anything else in your store I would buy that too without hesitation. I wish all aftermarket producers produced this level of quality.

I would be in for a few if it didn't have the logon in your face , wonder how many you would need to sell to justify retooling, probably to many damn it

It wouldn't be that hard to adjust the mold. I design plastic injection parts for my job and the metal tools get modified from time to time. You can either machine off that part of the mold or fill it in by a weld then re-textureing the surface. Hope this gets fixed. Seems like a good product.
