I’d get a 230V unit and 50’ of cord so you aren’t limited to where the outlet is. I have 50 feet of cable. I can run the welder or heater off it.

500 isn't enough just say you got the one @Hojack posted you still need to get a welding tank a gauge for it not sure if that one comes with it says flux core wire also welding cart set of gloves and a auto darking helmet.

I also think your axle is too far back. The factory bump was where the center of the axle tube was and per the pics yours look behind it. I agree that you should cut off just your front spring mounts and move them forward on the frame. I'd say move them around 2 inches forward, tack, put weight back on it and see what the angle is on your shackle. Adjust the front mount location again if needed to get 40-45 degrees angle on your shackles at ride height. Is your floor level where you are doing this?

... I put the center of the mounting holes 40 1/2 inches apart...

@Hojack , can you measure the distance on your front springs to see where we ended up for you? Measure center of bolt hole on your fixed mount to the center of bolt hole (frame side) on your front shackle mount. This will help for comparison sake. We settled on a 4 inch length shackle.

I’ll have to get the measurements for you guys in a couple of days I’m home visiting family. My driveway is level, or just slightly off. Move front hangars forward or the rear hangars back or a combination of the 2?

@Hojack did you do a shackle reversal?

So let’s say then that cost isn’t an issue what reasonably would you recommend?

I think you can get away with only moving the front hanger. At least try that first and see how it sits. That will pull the spring forward, thus pulling your axle forward too.

Are you using front or rear springs for the front?
The factory center-to-center distances of the mounts are 41.42” and 45.87” for the front and rear respectively (from the FSM)
Those are good STARTING points.

I am reusing the front leaf springs. Just doing a shackle reversal.

I’ll try... it’s been one of those days.

That’s a negative ghost rider.

The long work day for me continued. Family friend had a pump go out at the coast so I took off after dinner and just arrived on the Long Beach penninsula. A few hours of work here and not on the 60... owe well he lets me stay here for free. Perhaps I’ll bring @boots4 here at some point. Here’s some pics of my 60 on the beach with my buddy Matt’s 4Runner when we stayed here a couple years ago.

I can’t wait to get mine out to play again.

What do you guys think of the Hobart welders? It would be closer to the grand mark but I’m seeing as I look is more realistic

Shackle reversal or not doesn't matter on getting the distance from eye to eye, but... since we used @Hojack rear FJ60 springs up front and you are just reusing your front springs our measurements won't help for comparisons sake. Thought you had moved your rear's up front. Regardless it looks like you'll still need to experiment with your front hanger location to move the axe forward and improve your shackle angle.

In general the more vertical your shackles the stiffer your springs will feel. The more horizontal your shackles the more softer they'll feel. I have a SR but with different springs that have arch in them at ride height. I'm running a shackle angle of 20 degrees at ride height to stiffen up the front due to my drivetrain weight, the style of the springs I'm running, the geometry I'm playing with, and because I didn't want to run sway bars. There's no hard set rule about shackle angle, just depends what you want to get out of it.

Out of curiosity why aren't you running the rear springs up front?

Honestly the leaf springs is probably the least that I have researched. So is the common thing to do just to switch the front and rear leaf springs?

The rears are longer and can offer more suspension travel. Longer springs can be a little more compliant in the ride department too for offroad use. If you still have your rears I'd consider swapping those up front. You did chevy 63s in the rear right?

I have a set of new ome springs in my shop for the 60 i am working on I'll get a measurement in a few to use the chevy springs ypu have to move both
