Is keeping everything Toyota a requirement? Why not a GM trans?

I've been looking into 4l80/6l80 swaps with the same intention to modernize my 80 with a turbo and possibly extra gears via 6l80.
I also did consider AB60 6 speed which I believe Compushift makes a controller for.

Regarding 1st gear being too short in a 6 speed, I compiled some charts referencing rpm, tire size, axle gearing, and vehicle speed in post #48 and #49 in my build thread. I'd definitely stick to (or revert back to) factory axle gearing if gaining some gears... It'll keep things stronger too. I'm far from starting this so much credit to you for taking this on and hopeful that you'll find a solution.

In the second chart below for 37's I included 4L80E with Low Gear Set for 1st and 2nd which is within a few percent from a442 gearing.

Also for entertainments sake Wholesale Automatics does a 1fz to 4l80 conversion kit. And I do know of a 4l80 along with some trickery can be made to have more gears. I can dig up that info if there's any interest.

With 315's...

After the A650E proved to be a nonstarter, I am (slowly) working my way down the 6L80 route. Standalone controller is $900, works with ANY engine. I think I have figured out the transmission to transfercase (shorter than Marks). Biggest piece left is 1FZ to 6L80 - an adapter plate that keeps overall length the same as A343F.

I got it from that Russian LandCruiser website. Here's the Link

Thanks for the link, still seems to complete unobtainitionium. I think it will be less effort to get a 6L80 in and working.

Guess you're looking into the PCS TCM-2650 as well since it's the only controller/module for the 6l80. I was looking to go Marks for the transmission to transfercase, but if you figure something out before I get started, may be willing to fund things a bit for a second set of adapters.

Guess who’s getting into the adapter business 👏

I'm currently in no rush. I need to finish the adapter plate and make sure that bolts together all pretty like :p

It will be a .65 or .75” thick plate to make the HF2A bolt to 6 bolt pattern transmissions.

If @NLXTACY doesn’t come up with something first, I was going to use the spud shaft from this kit and cut it down. (I’ll probably use the tail housing too).

That will give me about an 1” for the adapter plate between the 1FZ and 6L80. Hopefully I’ll be able to clear the starter without notching the 6L80 bell. But at least it’s removable and only $100.
