So not much going on with the 55 this week. I had to use her to pull my truck out of the back yard. The FJ40 couldn't do it alone so I had the truck strapped to the 40 and the 40 strapped to the 55. Sorry no pictures, maybe next time. The brake weren't feeling all that solid so it was into the garage, up and jacks, and wheels off to do a brake inspection. Inspected, adjusted and bled the brakes. Brake adjustment was on the loose side and got some air out of the left rear. The PO had all four corners done so nothing needed to be replaced. I also decided to check out the tie rod ends. Tie rod ends were good with no play but the boots were all rotted away. Ended up replacing five tie rod boots but because this is a 72 it has six boots between the tie rods and drag link, not counting the steering stabilizer. More boots on the way from CCOT. Why are replacement boots sold in packages of five when there are six boots on the early models? Just one of life's little mysteries I guess.

Not much going on with the 55 this week. I had to pull down the portion of the headliner that had mice nests and then fogged it with some Meguiar's New car scent, not because that's what I wanted it to smell like but I had it left over from another project. I did however drive it to work today and on the way home the local orv park was calling my name but I had some other stuff I had to get done today.
so it was not to be. Yes that mirror is hideous. Slocruisers has some repops for $180 and occasionally has some scratch and dent for a lot less.

Just busy with life and working vw 1.6d swap into a samurai and gather parts for my wife's FJ40. Just picked up a relatively low mile 2F from a 60 that is going to go into the 40.

Sounds like would be friends with Dirt Lifestyle with that swap and your location.

Nate is on the other side of the state. I have watched a few of his builds on YouTube. Not much wheeling on the dry side just mainly forest service roads and the local orv park

PROGRESS!!!!
Guess what we're doing to the pig today!

If you guessed installing ported vacuum signal you are correct.

But wait! There is more! I also threw the "amazon special" hei dizzy on the ol Sun 504 and made some adjustments to mechanical advance curve and vacuum advance curve. I couldn't get it exactly where I wanted it but it is in the ball park now.

Is that so you can run a vacuum advance?
Yes, that is so I can run a vacuum advance dizzy. I need to take the old dizzy to a machine shop and get it re-bushed. I'm probably not going to put the vacuum retard dizzy back in but I am going to keep it in case the next care taker decides they have to have it.

Damn! I was thinking drilling multiple holes in the tires, deflating them with a fancy needle, and marking them “flat” with a fancy marker pen.

I didn’t even get close. 😩
That is tempting for the next part of the project. The tires are so old it feels like I'm driving on square tires.

Get yourself some Super Swampers and the first few blocks from your house will feel like you're constantly crossing the railroad.
