I thought Lexus only offered service info from any dealership. It was Toyota that would only give it with proof of ownership and only from that particular dealer.

I have used the Toyota site to research possible purchases in the past. The Lexus site is the same way. You register, put in the VIN, and it gives you what the dealerships have.

Hey everyone! Great info here. Thank you all for sharing.

I'm currently in the market for an '08/'09 GX. I stumbled upon a low mileage 2008 and was hoping a few of you could take a look at the listing to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious. It's located about five hours from me, so I want to make sure I do my due diligence before I make the trip. I know the factory Nav and Mark Levinson is a drawback, but I don't plan on using the Nav and have no interest in upgrading the sound system, so I'm willing to roll the dice. I've looked for a month or so and can't find an '08/'09 without it.

Here's the link-

I already spoke to the dealer, worked out a deal, and put a refundable deposit down. I'm planning to make the trip on Tuesday.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

It looks really clean, but personally I would spend half as much on one with more miles. :)

Thanks for the input guys!

The highest I'd like to go on mileage is 80k. There are a couple nice ones closer to me (Pittsburgh, PA) with 70k and 80k on the clock, but the interiors in each were a little rough and they were actually around the same price as the one I found with 49k, which is why I'm so skeptical of this one. It seems that in my area I have to go up into the 120k+ range to find something for significantly less money.

My wife and I are thinking about starting a family soon, so I need something more "baby friendly" than my 2009 Tacoma. I plan to leave the GX relatively stock for at least a couple years, eventually doing the air bag delete conversion and a 2" lift, ditching the running boards for sliders, and possibly plate bumpers. Nothing too crazy.

Maybe they will knock off a couple $100 if you un-bolt the chrome damage multiplier and leave it with them to put on the next one for a poser to buy.

Haha. The dealer already removed it prior to me negotiating the deal over the phone. If it was still on when I picked it up, I would have unbolted it the parking lot and thrown it in a dumpster.

Enjoy your new GX

Congrats on the new GX! Incredible find with such low mileage still- I would probably have ponied up that much dough too for sub 50k. And don't be too disappointed with the nav and ML stereo- I just added the GROM VLine unit and now have a 2017-era nav system in a 14 year-old truck. And I think it sounds great.

Congrats on the new GX. I picked up an '07 two years ago with 41k miles, one-owner, Lexus dealer serviced, sold by same dealer, looks like it may have never been outside of Tulsa where I got it, no rust, no KDSS, no NAV. I ponied up $24k and have been happy with it.

Hey guys. I picked up the GX yesterday. Looong day of driving and negotiating. Long story short, there is was some rock chip damage on the hood around the grille, light rust on the undercarriage, and it has the dreaded drive shaft thump. Other than that, it runs great and body is very straight. I ended up buying it for $19,879 with a 3yr/36k Toyota/Lexus Platinum warranty. I figure if the hood is really bothering me, I'll have it painted on the summer.

That's some decent negotiating skills- congrats on the new addition. Love the color.

Thanks! A lot of it was them knocking money off due to mechanical issues I noticed (and they confirmed) during the test drive. Things that I am going to have to address. The truck has a bad wheel bearing, a tick that the tech seemed to think was the exhaust manifold, and some of the electrics like seat motor and seat position memory didn't work. I'm pretty sure the warranty they ended up giving me covers all of that, but I didn't complain haha. The only caveat is I have to wait 30 days to use the warranty. I'll be out the cost to replace the bearing if it goes before then.

That's odd. I wouldn't expect wheel bearings to be covered under warranty (arguably a wear item), but hopefully they'll take care of it for you!

Yeah, maybe I'm reading the paperwork wrong. It says "axels and bearings; hubs" are covered, but I guess that's different than wheel bearings. Unfortunately, I won't get to find out. I'm having the bearing fixed tomorrow because it's getting so bad that it's affecting the steering.

What happened to the links that were in the first post??

Hey all, just joined but I've been lurking for a little while. I just test drove a GX for the first time tonight - I see what you are on about - drives way nicer than my current ('06 Jeep Liberty (6MT) with mild lift) and the GX is two years more experienced! 2004, 81k miles and Pearl White seems pretty much loaded to the gills - Navi, ML, DVD with headsets in the back along with the third row.

I found the links to the Lexus Service History site and checked the VIN - full factory service from day 1 and it's a single owner. Some body issues that you'd expect for a family hauler - stone chips in the hood and some light rash on the sides of the rear bumper, but what caught my attention during my walk around was blue smoke on start up, TPMS and one of the airbag gaiters was riding way too high (compared to the driver side). I noticed that there are several references to the Valve Stem seals for the FJ80 cruisers for the blue smoke at startup - is this an issue for the GX? The service history has several visits with the owner bringing it in for the blue smoke, but there was never a remedy - owner started bringing it in at 56k (now has 81k). TPMS has been a recurring issues since 16k! These two issues cause me a bit of concern - price is compelling and their offer (verbal) for my trade in is pretty fair.

The underside of the GX is the cleanest I've ever seen for 13 years old very minimal surface rust - all the major suspension components look in good shape - no cracking in the rubber that I could see. Air bags filled quickly and held at high with no signs of issues (other than the gaiter described above). The truck is not perfect, but I've always felt that it's easier to take a tight line through the woods when there's already a few dings in the paint!

I think I've made up my mind that this is the next platform for me, just trying to figure out if this is the right one - I'd really appreciate any insight you guys can throw my way. Thanks in advance!
