I will be taking advantage of that discount this week. Finally pulling the trigger on a set of skid plates!!! :p

I've got to search the couch cushions for a little extra change, but I would love to get a front or rear before HIH!

Maybe focus on the trim under your grille first Thorne??

I was already planning a San Juan hiking trip when I saw this event. I’m new to this forum; have a bone stock ‘98 100 riding on Michelin LTX M/S rubber. Never had it off road. No plans to until planning my trip and started reading about the Alpine loop. Unfortunately I won’t be able to join this event but I’ve now confirmed that there are sections (all?) of the trail that I should steer clear of. And I’m reading that my tires are inadequate. How would you guys characterize the kind of road I can use these tires on? This is my daily driver. Love it. Don’t want a second set of tires/wheels in the garage. At most I’ll be a casual/light weight off reader. Thanks for your help!

Those tires are probably fine for dirt roads / forest service roads. I wouldn’t push it much beyond that, personally. The tread is going to be inadequate for giving you traction in muddy conditions and the side walls probably won’t hold against puncture the same way a true all terrain will. Easiest thing to do is just go to an all terrain tire and then you don’t have to worry about it as much. The BFG Rugged Trail might be a decent compromise for you as it’s not an overly aggressive AT tire, but should do better in light off-roading situations than what you’ve got on the vehicle now.

edit: corrected some typos

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info!

Keep an eye on CL, I've picked up 3-4 sets of KO2's in the DFW area for ~$250 with 50% tread remaining.

Some folks have an issue buying used tires, but for some reason, they don't have a problem buying a used vehicle that last I checked also has used tires :)

So I am going to be rolling solo. I if anyone has any tips or warnings about sleeping inside the truck? What are the pros and cons? I can already tell that I will need some kind of pop up canopy or something outside of the vehicle to have so I can stand up, but I am not sure if there are any other considerations I need to account for if I am going to be sleeping inside the truck...curtains or something for the windows? Anything else?

Camped in the back of mine for over a year several times. Have the KISS drawers and just put a cheap full-size air mattress in. Jenn and I slept back there for 4 nights when we camped in Rocky Mountain NP. Actually very comfortable. Never felt the need for curtains. You could, though, cut windowshade material to the shape of the window and use small velcro tabs to secure them. I did this on my passenger side to "shade" the fridge I now have placed back there.

Best part of sleeping the rig is that you can do this anywhere and no one will bother you or know you're in there.

I just bought a roll of reflectix insulation this year for winter camping in the back. Biggest advantages are keeping it dark early in the morning and privacy. 1 roll was enough to make shades for all windows. Maybe provides some insulation, but 5 F is 5 F. I have a platform that is same hight as 2nd row folded down. Works great.

Try shrinking 1/2 a foot or get used to sleeping in the fetal position.
