Looking for a mobile welder.

I bought two sets; one for the 94 and the other for the 40th. #saveonshipping You’re welcome wife.

Here’s a question for you guys.
Is it worthwhile to invest in the 105 series steering components? We’re talking approx $2500 doll hairs in parts. My steering is fine and I’ve had zero issues. I’m planning on 37s but do I need it? This is an opportune time to do it; I’m of the buy once, cry once variety.

Also, here’s a shot below the recently sold two-tone’s cowl.

I garaged it for my entire ownership but damn. Poor girl must’ve been outside for a while before I got her.

Depending on your use case you'll get more bang for your buck out of ram assist than 105 steering components and come in cheaper.

My use case will be camping and going places. I don’t rock crawl, or at least never have before. I do want the option to rock crawl or whatever I want, while optimizing my chances of coming back from where I went in the same vehicle.

I not sure where you come up with that price, It should be half that price ( partsouq ) including sending it to Redhead to be installed in the box you have.
That being said I don't think that slow speed rock crawling is what twists the shaft it's running into a curb at speed or bombing down a fire road at speed hitting something that stops you dead in your tracks.
Mud induced fear caused me to buy a 105 sector shaft kit for my crawler and it been sitting on the shelf for a year now. and I have not damaged the stock one in many years of hard core crawling.
Hydro assist is a option but it well make the steering harder all the time as there is no high pressure Pump available for the gear driven power steering pump on the 1FZ motor.
If your in the rocks on big tire's and lockers the trade of is worth it, If your going to DD it probably not.

I run a rebuilt stock box. Apart from the occasional heavy steering in the rocks I've had no issues and I do bomb down trails at speed all the time. I agree though, the only sector shaft I've ever sheared was clipping a tree with a front wheel and about 20 MPH. Sheared the sector shaft, de-beaded the 40" tire and sent me off a cliff. Not sure an upgraded sector shaft would have stopped that.

Adding ram assist will considerably change steering feel which is why I haven't done it yet.

Solid inputs guys. The approximate $2500 price tag comes from buying a new -105 steering gearbox ($1800) by itself. Then you need the sector shaft and pitman arm and the other ancillary s***.

I think I’ll keep the reg box as it is. Maybe I’ll just have it rebuilt while it’s accessible and I’m welding those frame supports. Ahem, I mean paying someone else to do the welding.

Just so you know if you buy a new 80 or 105 steering box they come with a 105 sector shaft, you do need to buy the pitman arm, matching nut and washer.
The 105 sector shaft can be installed into your current steering box ;)

Thanks Broski, saved me money!

Check this out. Nobody was hurt. Nobody died. Sorry @Feldrian no bloody bits for your amusement.

Thanks to @BILT4ME again.

I have no idea. I figure I can just pull the pin and turn it no?
I failed to tell you to grease the pipe of the black stand head before you insert back into the stand.

Yes, you can pull the pin, but do it with two people there. One to pull the pin and one foot on the outer rear leg of the stand. one to hold the bar and his foot on the other rear leg of the stand. I have seen guys pull the pin and let go, thinking it's "balanced" and have it flip over so violently that it tips over the entire thing and it lands on the concrete floor and chips the concrete and breaks an exhaust manifold.

I also recommend removing one of the handle grips from the pipe and pulling the bar to one side for more leverage.

When you start to rotate, go SLOWLY until you can tell what gravity is going to do to you.

My plan is/was similar to this. I want to connect the hoist without the leveler to the corner of the engine using the lifting eye on only one corner for stability. I might have the spousal unit come out to help in case anything goes wrong, I can blame it on her.

Also, I’ll squirt some lithium grease up inside that black pole (so to speak)

Thanks again brother.

It never hurts to use caution!! but I don't think you well have any issue turning it over as just a short block. if you do remove one of the rubber handles be very careful that the handle does not slide all the way out !!
The way the block is orientated I think you well have very little movement when you pull the pin ;)

I think it was around $2900 shipped during that crazy sale March 2021.

Here she is flipped right side up. No mishaps. Safety first!

Snorting the white stuff is a bad idea though. Just sayin.
