3? You needed a 91-92?
It's a 1997. It's a project for my kids and I when we get out to the farm. Dude, I'm really excited about this one. My kids are going to be thrilled too.

Thants amazing. Good times ahead!

Small update: Cruiser had some weird idle issues that I’ve been tracking for about 2 months.

Symptoms:
Very infrequently my engine idle would drop to 200-400 and I’d have to feather the accelerator to keep the engine from shutting down. It happened to my wife once and it died on her.
This happened a total of 3-4 times over the course of 3 months or so.

Likely areas to inspect in priority order: vacuum leak(s), my refurbished VAF, main engine harness, others.

It happens at idle and usually with AC on. I think there’s a correlation to when the AC compressor kicks on but I can’t be sure.

I couldn’t find any vacuum leaks so I zeroed in on my BavRest refurbished VAFM. A few emails back and forth and BavRest and I determined I should rest the ECU and monitor. They said anytime you change out a VAF to ensure a full battery disco and ECU reset, otherwise the ECU could store values from a previously installed VAF and skew the operation.

Seemed like a stretch to me but I’m .0001 🍌 so I listened. It’s been about 2 weeks and approx 500 miles and everything is bueno. I’ll monitor for another month or so.

On a very positive note, BavRest is more than eager to assist and they’re customer service is top-notch. Unlike my wife in bed, I am thoroughly satisfied.

Made sure my knuckles had plenty of grease. They looked good inside looking in from the service port. I still have each side about 30 pumps of moly for good measure. A 12-pt 9/16 fit best to remove the square plug

Yeah, the CC is easy. There is zero fuel pressure release when I fuel up now. There was a little
If we're spending other people's money:

Also, you did the charcoal cannister mod before me? Dang it. At least i had more anecdotal evidence to rely on. Also, bless you for actually typing "garter snake" earlier in the thread instead of gardener snake.
I love the Volks but they bode well off-road. They stick out too far and will be damaged and spending that kind of money on wheels would make me too paranoid. I really like these:

Buying wheels or figuring out why your junk dies randomly?
Bite me. I think my engine issue is solved. :flipoff2:

There's a thread in tech that has a couple of dealerships offering major discounts on parts so I'm doing some shopping.

Great deals on parts right now - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/great-deals-on-parts-right-now.1279775/#post-14362504

I'm not buying anything else right now except a couple of engine harnesses. Maybe a short block. And a head. And cams. and holy s*** help me.

Certainly not buying wheels right now.

This site has incredible deals. Better than the other listed in the thread I linked above.

Stop with the half assed maintenance and drive it like you stole it. Works for me. :flipoff2:
It's not like aviation or anything. I don't cut corners on my cruisers!:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Apparently you cut a corner somewhere. The truth is that the 80 comes about as close as a car can come to being built as well as a flying machine. Back to basics.

Bro, my maintenance discipline is all 90* angles.

I've checked on a couple of parts through your link, I'm not going to source a short block though. You're a wild man.
The rear quarter louvers for instance; Roughly $80 at McGeorge, $62 at your link, $50 at partsouq.
.5 over pistons (for those buying engines) 13103-66040 $85 each at your link

The real question is whether any of my local parts counters would match any of these prices? It can't hurt to ask I guess. Do I do the Magnaflow cat and OEM after?

I don’t go crazy when it comes to shopping around for parts but I do try several dealerships. When I first began my parts ordering, I used the first site from google and that was a mistake. I dropped a s*** load of money at Stevens Creek in CA and those guys didn’t take any care of my packages. I’ll never give them my money again.

As I became more versed in part numbers and understanding components and sub-components I searched around and determined that’s wholesale modern Toyota is generally cheaper than others. I’m sure there are better ones out there. My one gripe with Wholesale Modern is they take a long time to ship. They will provide a tracking number but it’ll take a week just for the part to be collected by USPS. They do package parts well and they’re very kind and communicative. I like them.

I’m tried and buzzed so if I typed anything wrong, I’m not sorry.

What’s good everyone? This next bit has nada to do with my ‘94 but I don’t want to create another thread but I’ll capture it here and again later when I actually get back to the CONUS.

So check this out, I got an email notification about an 80 for sale. The sale ad was all over the place and the dude seemed VERY eccentric and there way too many red flags. I admit, I and several others gave him a good bit of hell for it.

Anyway, a couple days went on and someone said they were going to buy it but backed out. Since I was intrigued by the owners for sale post and the fact that he took a verbal beating and was giving out his fair share I decided to call him and have a discussion. Well turned out we hit it off and he is as bit of crazy as I and presumably, many of you are.

We agreed on a price and I sent him the cash, sight unseen of course (living in HI is awesome but there aren’t many cruisers for sale locally).

Now it was time for logistics. I gave a text and a call to @Riverrunner (Aaron). He hooked it up and within days my new cruiser was picked up from San Antonio and en route to my farm in TN. It took about 4 days to get there and there was some drama involved with the subcontractor BUT it arrived and arrived safely.

Here’s what’s interesting to me: the dude I bought the cruiser from was Russian. Nothing against Russians here; I hate everyone equally.

The next oddity was the truckers who picked up my cruiser were a husband and wife team straight from mother Russia.

The third oddity was when I received my title, the originally owner’s business name was imprinted on my title. Odida out of Texas. I decided to try to find more info on the cruiser so I called and spoke to the owner and asked if they remembered this cruiser from 6-7 years ago. He had some info but nothing compelling. But here’s what I found intriguing. The owner? You guessed it. Russian.

Odd? I thought so. Anyway, @Riverrunner worked with me and assisted me when I needed it and through a couple of SNAFUs he helped me navigate the process. He also hooked me up on final cost of the transport. Plug for Aaron? Sure, he deserves it. Plug for my distant Russian friends? Yep, why not.

Pics to come but this baby is a project. It’s a 40th unlocked with 170k miles. Straight body but the drivers seat leather had a fight with a wolverine and lost. Badly.

Otherwise my 94 is running like a Swiss watch and the newly refurbished VAFM is without discrepancies.

Btw, here’s my view today.
